According to a WWE source who would have full knowledge of the situation, Hart, 52, signed a short-term talent contract with WWE this past week covering the period from 1/1 to 4/10, or through WrestleMania and about two weeks after the 3/28 show at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, AZ. Hart simply told us that he wasn’t going to lie about anything and thus wasn’t going to say anything on the story. It was said that Hart wanted his signing to be kept quiet and his return to be a surprise, but that WWE couldn’t help itself but all but announced it publicly on the first Raw after the ink was dry.

Sources who were let in on the plans for Hart were told he would actually be wrestling, perhaps only once, and had agreed to do an angle based off the Survivor Series of 1997. Keep in mind McMahon told people the same thing in 2006, but the difference is none of the prior talks ever reached the stage where a contract was signed and where an angle aspect of the return was started on television.

It is not confirmed Hart will guest host the Jan. 4 show in Dayton, but we do know he is currently not scheduled to appear prior to that date and the angle made it appear he would debut under the guise of a one-time only guest host appearance.

Bret Hart signs WWE contract

Amid speculation that Bret Hart is in talks to return to World Wrestling Entertainment to host an upcoming edition of WWE RAW, it now appears Bret Hart's involvement with WWE will extend well beyond a 1-night appearance.

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart has signed a short-term talent contract with WWE that goes into effect on January 1, 2010 and runs until April 10th, approximately two weeks after WrestleMania 26.

There has been talk of talk of Hart returning to the ring for one match, but that is still speculation at this point.

Although nothing is official, he is expected to debut on the January 4 Raw show that will go head-to-head with TNA's Monday Night iMPACT! special

One can finally put an end to the speculation regarding Bret Hart returning to WWE--it is going to happen.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter confirmed that Hart has signed a deal with WWE that makes him available as an on-air character from 1/1/10 through 4/10/10; it essentially means he will work with WWE until just past WrestleMania.

When asked about the situation, Hart "simply told us that he wasn’t going to lie about anything and thus wasn’t going to say anything on the story," noted the Observer.

Talk within WWE circles about bringing Bret Hart back hit a high point earlier this year. Though it is not known if The Hitman ever actually expressed interest in the idea, one storyline plan called for Donald Trump to name Hart the permanent general manager during the period in which he "owned" RAW.

At press time, the belief is that Hart will first emerge on television under the guise of a RAW guest host. A storyline would then result in him working for several months, with the latest indication being that he will work at least one actual match.

Does this mean that Vince is actually worried about the impact Hogan's going to have on TNA?

I don't know that he's necessarily worried, but he’d be foolish not to concern himself at all with what TNA is doing.

I'm very excited over this. I wonder what condition he is in to actually bump and worse, i wonder if half the audience will know who he is? If he does "debut" 1-4-10 say what you want about Vince, when he wants to be he can put on a show like no other. This is one of the biggest stories of the decade.

Are you sure he's going to wrestle? He suffured a major stroke thanks to Goldberg and his no control ability. Maybe he will be a backstage agent? A GM on a brand?

Chef, don't ever compare Brett Hart to the Dynasty. Brett Hart is on a level of his own and he has the respect of his peers unlike your boy toy who can't even find his smile

Just found out that Brett Hart's deal is a 4 month short term thing leading into WM26. Plans are for Brett Hart to face Vince McMahon provided they can both still do it. Don't forget, Vince is in his 60's. Wow!!

Brett and Vince each choose a wrestler to represent them like they did with Umaga & Lashely a couple of years ago with Donald Trump. But this time Vince pics HHH and Brett pics......SHAWN MICHAELS!! No one would expect that and it would be amazing!!

1. Cena & Undertaker have nothing to do with that fued if and when it takes place. Cena is on a schedualed program to fued with the big show. Undertaker is schedualed to fed with Batista.
2. At least Bret isn't a crybaby and isn't afraid to job to other as well as having the respect of the locker room.
3. The only thing good about NYC is the 5 crime families that have brought up the economy. Other then that its a toilet bowl.

- WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart appeared on yesterday's edition of Wrestling Observer Radio on F4Wonline.com. Here are some of the highlights:

* Bret said he doesn't have faith in Eric Bischoff or Hulk Hogan when it comes to recreating the Monday Night Wars with TNA. He respects TNA as a company and hope it brings competition for the sport but doesn't think they're going to do anything major. Bret said Hogan has played himself out to the American audience and doesn't have anything to offer anymore.

* He feels he still has lots of ideas and different things he can contribute to wrestling. His ideal job in the business right now would be something similar to what John Laurinaitis does for WWE. He would want to be involved in planning matches and storylines.

* TNA has always been good to him as far as extending offers go.

* Bret says he is a big fan of Randy Orton's work these days but not impressed with the storylines he's been involved in. He also said he's impressed with Kofi Kingston and is a mark for Melina, calling her creative and very imaginative when it comes to doing her moves. He also feels everything Sheamus is doing right now is impressive and also is a big fan of Jack Swagger. Bret feels Swagger has good potential to be a top wrestler and character.

* He would loved to have wrestled Kurt Angle and David Hart Smith. He also would have loved to work as a heel against John Cena because he feels they could have told a good story together. He hinted that Cena's abilities in the ring are limited but he is still good.

* As far as all the news about his WWE return, Bret said he can't talk about the rumors but did say that he was talking with WWE and "we will see what happens."

If he comes back he would have to be a face. If they made him a heel it would be retarded because everyone would cheer him and you know they are gonna pop at the sight of him. Has anyone checked out stormwrestling.com to see if Lance has commented on this? I think I shall.

That is huge. Looks like TNA has vince worried. Personally I could give to shits about Bret, I've never liked him, and all his interview and such after he quit wrestling have none nothing but make me like him less. But with that being said it is very interesting to see what they do with this. Ill be watching TNA on the 4th, but Ill have an eye on wwe now. There is one thing about it though, and I've always said this, you need competition to be succesful. TNA comes to monday, there show gets better, Vince has competition, now we are actually gonna have a Raw worth watching. Its a win-win.

One idea:
Addressing the presumptions that Taker won’t put HBK over at Mania, they are both close to retiring, Shawn wants a few months off, and they need to put Bret somewhere into the Mania mix…

Consider this:

Taker faces Shawn in a Mania rematch supposedly billed as a retirement match for both guys.
Bret is involved in some capacity that benefits Taker – in essence “screwing” HBK in his farewell outing.

Taker retires with his undefeated Mania record in tact.
Shawn retires as planned, only to return 4 months later (after his break) to claim he was screwed and wants one final outing.
Only now, there is no Taker – so HBK gets his final show with his buddy Hunter.

Only thing is, I don’t know how Taker would like going out that way. I have a feeling they have something more epic planned for his departure.

Remember that no one said either Taker or HBK is retiring. They just both need time off to heel old nagging injuries that have caught up with them over the years. I think were gonna see a Hitman / Michaels side vs a Vince / HHH side in some ort of bout just like a couple of years ago when Umaga with Vince in his corner fought Lashley with Trump in his corner.

It's an interesting one this. They've contracted Bret through to WM, so he's obviously going to be doing some angle involving the Screwjob, which would in theory involve HBK. And from what I've read, the storyline for Bret/WM has already been done. If that is the case, then why continue with Shawn calling out Taker? I'm not sure which is going to happen, but for once I'm actually looking forward to seeing where they take it.

I've always liked the Hitman and I really enjoyed seeing him last week.
But, as far as him getting in the ring (I'm sure he will), don't expect to see the old "excellence of execution."
Between his stroke, the concussion(s), weight gain, and Father Time, Bret's glory days in the ring are long behind him.

That being said, he still knows how to "work."
He still knows how to tell a story in the ring using his body, timing, psychology, and acting.
And whatever he does "in...this...very...ring," you can rest assured it will be top-notch!

I hear you there. I don't think he'll be wrestling. Given his age (52yrs old) plus the fact that he had a stroke some years back, I highly dought he'll wrestle. I am very interested to see the angle they work with this one leading into WM. I think the Royal Rumble PPV will have a lot of surprises that will be leading into WM.
