interesting guy for sure but who knows if he tells the whole story
Hershcel was the greatest college RB of all times, hands down. It was well known that he never lifted weights - only calithentics.

I have an autographed Herschel photo - one of my all time favorite b-day presents.

I loved the Stern interview. He is a hard-working, very rich man.

Walker really isn't that complicated.  He's been doing the same thing probably since high school.  I used to read about what he did when he played for Georgia.  It has never changed.

What's the BFD?

Oh lookie here,

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/article/magazine/MAG1125982/3/index.htm

There were no weights at Johnson County High in Wrightsville until the beginning of Herschel's senior year. Coach Phillips recalls, "We finally scraped together enough money to get a few weights, and naturally I was curious to see how much Herschel could lift. I'd hoped to use 250 pounds as a sort of goal for all the bigger players on the team, but I remember watching in amazement that first day as Herschel took that 250-pound barbell and pumped it up and down, up and down, like it was made of Styrofoam. After he was finished he looked over at me, genuinely puzzled, and said, 'Coach, 250 ain't heavy.' "

Phillips estimates that Walker spent no more than six or eight hours in the weight room that fall. That's all, folks. Since going to Athens and bursting upon the consciousness of Bulldog football fans, Walker hasn't trained with weights at all. But he has been strength-tested with the rest of the football team, and his natural strength, augmented by those hundreds of thousands of push-ups, have allowed him to bench-press 375 pounds once and 225 pounds—his approximate body weight on his last test day—for 24 repetitions. Only a seasoned lifter can appreciate how astonishing those figures are, and how much training it would normally take for a 225-pound man to be able to match Herschel's ability to chin himself with either hand. Or, for that matter, how unlikely it is for anyone to have a percentage of bodyfat estimated at under 5%, especially in a body fueled almost exclusively by hamburgers.

I'm not so surprised by his training or sleep habits, but more his seeming lack of daily calories.

How the hell could it be possible to function, let alone as an athlete, by eating so few calories?

Genetics? Natural testosterone levels? Or, chemicals? Or simply a freak of nature?

very true

the only thing I would change is weights 1 day on one off no more than 3 times a week

also at least a full day of rest a week at least

judging from the look of you your opinion is worthless here.

a lot of people eat one meal a day. They feel slow if they eat during the day i hear. So basically they pig out at dinner and make up the calories for the whole day.

He had to do something for traps. I don't think shrugging with no weight can give him that "slope shoulder" look that comes from doing trap excerciese and no real delt work. I had that at one time--looking like a pencil eraser.

In IronMan magazine a few months ago, there was an interview with the guy who was the body double for Dr. Manhattan in The Watchmen. I can't remember his name.

He said that he only ate one meal a day, whatever he wanted.

I'm sure he's pumped full of drugs but he did look awesome in that movie.

He remains to this day an oddity in the pro football world. He has been said to do thousands of pushups and situps daily, rather than lift weights, while maintaining 2% body fat :D

Anyone hear Herschel Walker on Howard Stern on Wednesday?

The guy claims to eat one meal a day (soup, salad and bread) at night, and he only drinks water. Sleeps about 4 hours a night.

I haven't seen any recent pics of the guy, but he's all into MMA and has a fight coming up.

He says he's clean, no roids.

All just genetics with such little calories and sleep?

My friend who I grew up with and have known since I was 8 came by a couple weeks ago.  He the best high school pitcher in the country when he was a senior and signed with the Expos out of high school.  He weighs just 2 pounds more than he did in high school.  Back then all he did was 500 situps and 1000 jump ropes everyday.  he never missed a day.  He has never lifted a weight in his life.  I asked him if he still does this and he said just last Christmas he quit doing so much.  He has a six pack and rides his bike 5 miles a day and does the situps but no jump ropes.
No Worries 4 me

Considering that, as we age, our metabolisms slow down, and we generally become less active, doesn't it stand to reason that we should eat fewer calories?
