I wear them every time I workout. My squat went up 50 lbs due to me not leaning forward in a conventional sneaker

I wear them for squat day and deadlifts.

I got the "split" ones, don't know if that's an advantage or not.

Plus, you don’t want something thick that your feet will “sink” in. You want a nice, solid contact with the ground for a good & sturdy foudation.

I once heard a story of a guy who was doing either deads or squats in some kind of Nike shoe, and the shocks or air cell (whatever it was) collapsed. Why add more risk of injury?

You can find pictures of some old-time hardcore trainers DL & squatting in their bare feet.

I squat and DL in bare feet. A few times in flip flops. Get a better (for me anyway) grip on the floor and overall feel for those exercises. Even can help balance. I don't surf in shoes for the same reason I don't squat in shoes. Surf has been excellent, by the way.

Anyone who uses the shoe/boot that Olympic lifters wear can tell how they handle any leg work much better. The raised heels on them insure better control, balance and I might add, confidence. Also seems to affect the lower quads more, though you could squat on a 2X4/plates and get much the same focus. Of course wearing PL'ing shoes also has it's advantage. A friend of mine, who was in the 101st, would wear his old jump boots when squatting. Swore it added 20 to 30 lbs to his lifts. Good Luck.

Wrestling shoes or barefoot, all the way, every workout.  You'll vbe thankful from your feet all the way up to your glutes and into your lower back.  I walk on the treadmill barefoot as well, this is really really good.  Slightly better movement pattern multiplied by thousands of repititions or several reps with very heavy weight=big difference.

At first, I could not get my foot in, was about to call Eastbay, and tell them to ship me a bigger pair.. but after working the shoe, it fits great now.

Asics makes wrestling shoes that work decent for the task. I knew a few guys who wore them.
You can often find some decent deals on them – at least at some of the stores around my way.

Otomix makes some good wrestling/boxing shoes. I’ve owned 3 different pairs over the years. They’re my favorites, but I think they’re a little pricey for what they are.

The Adidas Good Year Racers are driving shoes. They have a nice thin sole, but it’s very rigid and my feet feel a little less stable in them – kind of a mild rocking effect.

Before investing in any new shoes, try kicking off whatever shoes you normally wear and DL/squat in your socks.
You may fall in love with the concept.

Only negative about regular socks is that slipping may be any issue. Martial arts/ballet slippers seem to work for some folks. But I still prefer going native with bare feet. Though I ,at times, have lifted off a wooden platform but no splinters yet. Good Luck.

Just to add: Congrats to Captain Insano for his excellent avatar.

I have Asics Split "something".......the front and heel are seperated.

Alot of gyms frown on squatting/deading barefooted or in socks.

Good point.
Presumably, more so with the large commercial chains.

I like JPM's suggestion about the ballet slippers.
Although, if anyone else asks, they're ninja socks!

What if you have 6 toes? Of course the only advantage of having 6 toes is being able to count up to 12.  Up to 22 if you use your fingers.

Never seen these before. Interesting idea. Good Luck.

Definitely try wrestling shoes for leg days.  I will never go back to regular shoes.  Your feet will feel planted with the wrestling shoes.
