Holy shit!! I was just going to post something on Bob Probert right now and I saw this.

Probert was a big, tough mean dude that fought over 300 fights in the NHL, and that's not including his minor league stats. He is unquestionably the greatest and most feared hockey fighter to ever lace on a pair of skates and is more of a legend in the minors than even Wayne Gretzkey was (I played for the Sue Saint Marines (Probert's minor league team) and a few minor league clubs in Canada and Europe for about 15 years). You want to talk about fighting and studying the craft you look to Probert, he was the master. Ask any historian or former player and Probert makes the top 3. His influence and aura was just as big as Mike Tyson's was in his prime in a hockey ring. Probert was also a notorious street fighter and practiced boxing for many years. There was a ton of stories from his minor league days about beating up three cops, and punching somebody through a car window and not even getting cut. He also was so wild that when he was with the Detriot Red Wings that they covered up stories with money. He punched out a stripper in a club in Canada who wouldn't serve him and Joe Kocur anymore drinks and she got payed off by Detriot. He was pulled over for speeding and went nuts and beat up two cops in the Detriot Windsor Tunnel. He has been in over 5 bad motorcycle accidents and walked away from all of them unscathed. In rehab in the early 90's, he threatened the life of former NFL madman Dexter Manley to leave a few other inmates alone and Dexter never bothered them again. When he got busted in 2004 for drug shit it took three tasers and SEVEN cops to subdue him (I've been tasered once and it fucking sucks!!) and when he was put into custody they had to put him in a lone cell because they feared for the inmates. When he came to he went nuts and started getting naked and shoving all his clothes down the toilet and began shouting "Red and White!! Red and White!!" This is the Detroit Red Wings chant. The guy went so nuts because he has ADHD, a hyper activity disorder and when you throw in drugs, the guy was just an animal. He had some crazy parties in Windsor, Ontario were he lives and he got busted for putting his wives brother thru a wall (charges were dropped of course) and his name is so known there, that when were disturbances at his home, there was never less than five cops that would show with gear ready for a war. And I know people personally who have been to some of his parties. He was banned from Canada for over 5 years and suspended countless times but the NHL would always bring him back because he was money and anyone and everyone who watched and played hockey throughout the mid 80's through the mid 90's knew the name Bob Probert. Sure, during the 2000's with the Chicago Blackhawks at the end of his career he sucked ass but he is and will always be the true NHL heavyweight champion.

Tyson would get beat simply because as crazy as Tyson was Probert was just as crazy but more tougher and I believe could take a better punch. But hell, this would be the ultimate street fight. Regardless what people may think of him on these boards, he was a real life badass who people were terrified of.

Tyson would smoke him.

Are you retarded?  Probert couldn't take a pro light weight boxer in a street fight. sure on the ice he was the man but that's where it ends. Tyson would ko him with his fart

X2...On top of that, the hockey player is used to having all his fights broken up with a minute or two...Imagine the type of damage Tyson would do to this guy in a street fight with no one around to break it up...

But put Probert and Tyson in their respected fields and they nullify the other. In a boxing ring with gloves, Tyson kills Probert every time. Put Tyson in a rink on skates and a jersey, Probert kills Tyson every time.

Tyson could probably not even stand on skates.

They rarely swim, skate or ski.

In their respected field, The Iceman (Richard Kuklinski) would take care of both Probert and Tyson in the streets.

Richard Kuklinski is the main reason people respect and fear Shizzo

The internet really brings out the dumbest of people.

Probert was tough as shit and could smoke anyone who ever laced up the skates.  I was a kid when he was knocking dudes out on the daily and he did seem to have the same aura that Tyson did, that made him seem like an invincible object.  Almost like both of them were more than a man.

With that said, Tysons only job was fighting (not playing hockey lol).  He would make Probert look like a school girl if they both touched gloves in the 80's.

Few ice hockey players are even dedicated to their sport. Boxers usually train like son of a bitches since it's only them in the ring and no-one else so they don't have anyone else to blame, while hockey players are most likely at the bar picking up girls.

And playing hockey is damn easy too. You play for 1 minute tops at a time so don't need to have good endurance, you have to be moderately fast on skates, don't have to be strong. Just be good with the stick and be in the right place at the right time.

::). I went to high school with guys like you.  Don’t tell me, you could bench 300 easy too, before you got a shoulder injury?  And you were 300 with abs before Corona closed the gyms?  Lol

Both were excellent athletes.  Both were drug addicts with mental health issues.  Tyson would have won a fist fight on flat foot, Probert would have won a fight on skates.  Probert’s dead, so we’ll nvr know who would win a charity boxing match in this age.  On a similar note, anyone that thinks ice hockey is an easy sport to learn or play, you’re a retard and you should go hang yourself for being a stunned ELOC cnut.

I agree about hockey. I was a good soccer player in elementary school, and a good "boot hockey" player [kicking around a tennis ball], but I never quite mastered the skates. And if I had to say why, I would say that skating is just not my thing, genetically speaking.

My goal now is to be stronger and faster than my favourite athlete, Canadian UFC Hall of Famer Georges St-Pierre.

Stronger meaning:

Stronger bench press, deadlift, and squat.

Faster meaning:

Faster 100m sprint time.

There is NO EXCUSE for me to ever be watching a UFC fight, knowing any of the fighters below heavyweight are stronger than me, Jon Jones excluded, and maybe a few more in the light-heavy's.

We are supposed to be a board of gym afficionados here who lift weights as a hobby.

If pro athletes are stronger than us, AND way better than us at their respective sports, something is up with that.

That said, here in Ontario gyms are closed. So all I can do is go for walks, and body weight calisthenics, and a few other things. I am staying in shape somewhat at 190-lb, but not "in shape" by my own standards [including strength].

And with age, I think people tend to prioritize health. But I still want to be strong and fit - for as long as I can.

Out of curiosity, is there any truth to the notion of hockey players being partiers?

My friend, who was within distance of making the NHL, said Wayne Gretzky and Mark Messier would drink and do coke after practice. Could that be remotely true, even the drinking part?

A separate friend told me that some NFL players are functional alcoholics. I was taken aback. Brett Favre's opioid addiction makes sense - as opioids offer pain relief. But alcohol? I suppose cocaine could make an athlete faster, but seems like it would be horrible for the ticker when combined with super intense game play.

Is there any truth to hockey players partying? Is it just a matter of going to the pub after a game one night out of the week only? I'm asking because it fascinates me that some addicts can be high level athletes too.

I have to say, Darren - I was shocked at Mike Tyson's amazing performance against Roy Jones Jr.

I get that Mike Tyson was better in his respective prime than RJJ. No one disputes that, that I am aware of.

But I think RJJ had fought in 2017, whereas Mike Tyson hadn't punched a bag since 2005.

And that fight wasn't a "draw", lol. As I recall, Tyson won 6 of 8 rounds, and RJJ was huffing and puffing like a locomotive after that fight.

It didn't make sense.

I think basil's post made sense before the Mike Tyson comeback. After that exhibition match, it was clear to me that Tyson still had it.

LOL!!!

This is me typing on some $119 CAD [$85 USD] smartphone. Literally the second cheapest model Wal-Mart had.

I feel I can barely type on this. Or that I'm typing slowly on this virtual keyboard.

So these are my short posts, lol.

Holy fuck, how long were they before?

Or I'm getting used to typing fast on here.

Ron or a moderator can confirm I'm typing from a mobile device.
