Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa., is in intensive care at a Virginia hospital, following gallbladder surgery last week.
"Congressman Murtha underwent a scheduled laparoscopic surgery to remove his gallbladder last week," his spokesman, Matthew Mazonkey, said in an e-mail. "Complications did arise from the surgery, and he is currently at the Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington."
Murtha, 77, was hospitalized in December after suffering abdominal pains related to gallbladder problems. Murtha, in his 18th full term in Congress, oversees defense spending on the House Appropriations Committee.
