CURRENT WHIP COUNT -- DEMS DOWN BY 9 VOTES!!!
The Hill ^ | 03-16-2010 | cww

Posted on Tuesday, March 16, 2010 9:46:26 AM by CWW

According to The Hill, there are currently 37 definite or leaning no votes by DEMS and 58 undecideds. The DEMS would have to win ALL undecided votes to eek out a 216-215 win. Of the 58 undecideds, however, the following 9 are leaning “no”. If any of these 9 vote no, then the bill dies.

Jason Altmire (Pa.) * (N) Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-S.C.) told McClatchy he's targeting Altmire, who many view as key to passage. Altmire said on Fox News he has an "open mind." Voted no in committee and on floor, but bottom line is his yes vote is gettable.

Brian Baird (Wash.) (N) Retiring member who bucked party on Iraq war surge.

John Boccieri (Ohio) * (N) In a bad sign for the White House, Boccieri did not appear with President Barack Obama at his March 15 speech in Ohio. Boccieri, a GOP target, told Foxnews.com, "I'm not afraid to cast a tough vote..." Clyburn has publicly said he is leaning on Boccieri, whose vote could go a long way in determining whether healthcare reform will pass.

Bart Gordon (Tenn.) * (N) Retiring committee chairman. Clyburn especially wants his vote.

Suzanne Kosmas (Fla.) (N) Easily won her race in 2008; her 2010 race will be tighter.

Betsy Markey (Colo.) (N) Was a late no last time. In early March, Markey declined to be interviewed by Denver Post on her position on bill. Likely target for Democratic leaders.

Scott Murphy (N.Y.) (N) Reelection race looks good, for now. Told local media he might vote yes.

Glenn Nye (Va.) (N) In toss-up race

John Tanner (Tenn.) * (N) House deputy whip not running for reelection, but he still will need to be convinced to get to yes. Voted no in committee and on floor

100% of the black vote = 13%

The rest come from liberal jews and guilt ridden white voters.

The balance are college morons and the welfare drug addict vote like Julio.

i dont like the use of words like that to descibe voters - it gets ppl too defensive.  "College morons" has to be one of the funniest phrases.

Obama got 53.9% approval on election day.  And he's at 49% today, despite a liberal agenda and crippled economy.  That scares the shit outta me.  The only light is that Palin and other idiot repubs have STFU for a few weeks and allowed sensible voices from the repub party to get a little airtime.  Palin hasn't facebooked about something minor, Rush hasn't thrown a racist comment out there, and Beck hasn't cried.  When these 3 stop being distractions, the GOP leaders actually get a little limelight to get thru to americans!

Most students in college are complete morons when it comes to politics.  In fact some studies have shown at Cornell & Yale, students actually graduate knowing less about american History and Politics than when they first entered.

I hope they vote this monstrous bill down, are forced to extract the good provisions and pass a more focused, less costly bill later in the next few months.

I think Rasmussen only polls people who vote.

Gallup polls anyone.

If I remember correctly, Gallup had Obama up by 11% in the election. but he won by 7 %

Rasmussen was only off by 1%

Yes, I agree there james.  But I like to use gallup for the historic factor - we can see how carter, reagan and others were at this point.

Also was resmussen consistently at that 1% off number?  Or did they change at that last week?  I remember one of the right-ish polling sources had mccain when nobody else did - then they changed it to obama at last second so they could make claim to accuracy.  Not sure if it was rass or not.

Why do people keep comparing Obama and Reagan?

Reagan loved this country and had a plan to get out of the mess we were in with Volker and it was short lived.

Now with Obama, he hates this country and reminds us of the same every damn day.  Additionally, his plans suck and are making things far worse.

What I don't understand is that other polls have shown a decrease. Close to Rasmussen's number. Yet, Gallup doesn't move from that 49%. Something is wrong with Gallup.

Gallup polls anyone, not just the people who vote. Most people dont vote, and that is why Gallup was off in the last election, and is currently off in Obama's recent approval numbers.

'Why do people keep comparing Obama and Reagan?  '

Both were right around 50% after a year by Gallup, as was Clinton.

I do it for the re-election factor.  Remember (this is often forgotten), I'm a huge fan of politics, but of neither party.  I think they're both full of greedy scumbags.  But the tactics, the method, the public opinion swaying with misleading... this stuff fascinates me.

I was fascinated with Rove's ability to divide in order to conquer.  I love the way axelrod sold a pre-packaged dream and convinced people to be a part of it.  I'll probably be impressed with the 2012 republican, how he uses obama's own words and promises against him - almost cmpaigning AGAINST the rock star image.  this is why I h ate cosmo lush Scoot Brown and complete idiot Palin - they steal tv time from Republicans who should actually be taking on obama.

I think that was Reuters/Zogby that changed at the last.

Gallup polls during the day, and polls anyone, so I would not count on them to be very accurate about Obama's recent approval ratings.

Rasmussen is more accurate 240, as they only poll people who vote, and again, they were only only off by 1% in the last election.

Did you see that Gallup was 20th out of 23 ?   :o

Like I wrote earlier, Gallup is not an accurate poll anymore.

This all started during Clinton's term with the daily polling nonsense.  I think Dick Morris was the spark that set that fire ablaze.
