post workout: all you need is milk?
« on: September 08, 2010, 07:32:49 AM »
just read an article that says that a pint of milk is all you truly need post workout? has protein, carbs, casein and why, vitamins, etcetera.

a very cheap and just as good post workout drink as opposed to expensive post workout supplement drinks.

a pint is 16 ounces, hmm, don't know if 16 ounces of milk ( skim milk) has enough protein or carbs that a person needs post workout?

article said you can drink this pint of milk and eat a banana if you want some extra  carbs after your workout.

It's all you need.....IF YOU WEIGH 160 lbs or so. I'm 230...NO WAY a pint of milk gets it done for me.

I can get RTDs or MRPs with 2-3 times as much protein for LESS than a pint of milk (in fact, there are some Monster Milk packs I have to pick up later today at GNC ;D ).

Carb-wise, I'm covered there, too (though I'm almost out of the CELL-TECH I bought a month and a half ago).

Been there; done that; broke two blenders in the process.

The RTDs are CHEAPER, taste better, and don't need refrigeration. Plus, I don't have a blender to clean.

Case in point, the Worldwide Nutrition Pure Protein RTD I have in my bag, which cost me $0.65

That’s exactly what they did back in the 60’s, and guys who did it right got some excellent results.
For the low-carb crowd, heavy cream was used in lieu of milk due to its “0” carbohydrate content.

Oftentimes, protein powder was added, although Gironda claimed a few times that it was just for taste.

Interestingly enough, most of today’s best-selling powders are blends consisting of milk & egg derivatives.

There is a good reason for this. Eggs contain around 18 of the 22-24 amino acids in protein. So, it's the best buy for the buck. ;)

Huh? You can get a dozen eggs for around $1.60, depending where you shop. I can get the pub. brand and get around 18 eggs fro a $1.80. You don't need a blender. Just shake N take. ;)

The point: Notwithstanding the fact that I already consume eggs (which, incidentally cost less where I buy them than where you do), I can get the RTDs for about as much or for LESS. That's why I buy them. Here's the proof.

Let's see: One dozen eggs for $1.60, assuming those are large eggs, that's 72 grams of protein.

I just bought some Worldwide Nutrition Pure Protein RTDs, each containing 35 grams of protein, for $0.68

Therefore, two of those RTDs would give me 70 grams of protein (nearly the same amount as a dozen eggs) for $1.38, nearly a quarter LESS than a dozen eggs at the price you cited.

18 eggs for $1.80? That's 108 grams of protein. However, thanks to the markdowns at GNC, the Monster Milk MRPs are on sale for $1.17 each (which drops to $0.94 each with the Gold Card). Two of those is 100 grams of protein for $1.88.

Have you tried them lately?
Some people develop an allergy to eggs due to consuming too many over a period of time, but after a layoff, they're fine again.

The reason I ask is that I know you use ON's Pro-Complex, which contains egg white protein.

i dont use pro complex....i just use the gold standard whey and cassien....and custom mixes from true protein...

i have been allergic to eggs since birth....a lot of my standard vaccination shots were given to me growing up with a crash cart at arms length...i still cant have a flu shot because of it...

i still eat eggs sometimes...i refuse to say "no eggs" on a breakfast taco....i just take 4-5 benadryl a day to curb the effects...

I'm still contemplating trying the Carnivoir shots.
I realize they contain a lot of collagen-based protein, but I recently learned that they also add BCAA's to it.
It might be that combo that makes them so effective.

Have you gone back to using them?

Looks like a good formula.
Do you mix that with just water?
I presume a blender is required?
