Do you really need to refrigerate after opening?

If you didn't, how long until it's considered bad/unsafe?

Yes, it's a volitile oil that oxidizes quickly.  It doesn't have to be a fridge though.  Just a cool dark place, but a fridge slows down the rate of oxidization.  The only problem is it gets thick and hard to use.
