System Restore?
Found this at ilounge:
cjmnews is correct -- there are no situations I'm aware of where iTunes would automatically delete anything from your computer. Even the buggiest versions of iTunes I've ever seen have never done this.
iTunes is almost ridiculously anal about not deleting things unless you very specifically ask it to, and even in these cases, only those items that it thinks are under its control (ie, within your "iTUnes Music" folder).
Even if the iTunes library database were to be erased or corrupted, this doesn't affect the underlying files, although you won't see them listed in iTunes.
You may want to search through your computer and see if the files are still there anywhere. Just because you cannot see them in iTunes doesn't necessarily mean they are gone. In fact, if you haven't done anything specifically to actually delete them, then chances are they're still on your computer somewhere.
If you can find the files, you can just reimport them into iTunes by using the File, Add to Library menu option in iTunes.
