Bernard Cornwell is an excellent historical fiction writer. I have read almost all the sharpe books but my favorite are the ones of Thomas Hookston.
Have you read the Saxon stories or the Starbuck chronicles just great reads.Saxon is about Vikings and early England and Starbuck is about the American civil war......I've probably read the entire Sharpe series at least 4 or 5 times.
