Where did I contradict myself?

The part where I said "kids" and you were like "they're not kids" and I was like "no chewing gum" and you were like "college students"....

Nevermind, you're hopeless. Forget it.

Since you keep referring to them as "children". Just needed to set the record straight.

Well then, stop treating them as such

a lot of gyms have signs in the locker rooms now saying no taking or selling of drugs. thats why most guys  do it in the toilet stalls or parking lots.

You seem like the type of guy who would enjoy doing it in toilet stalls.

The ipod rule, no leaving for water rule and only prescriber workouts (unless it is team training ur rules are for) are silly IMO

So Ursus (and others who disagree) should I just let the team just run around and do what they want? Not trying to confrontational, just want input.

I wouldn't join a gym that didn't have one of these.

So I could enjoy this.

Why wouldn't they want to be there to work hard? What kind of person isn't self motivated to get results?

Oh wait.... kids.

If Yates walked into a gym and started showing people how to train, people would flock to him and work as hard as they could. Because they know he knows his shit, and they want results. He wouldn't have to ban people from walking out to get a water because they wouldn't be loitering around avoiding coming back to train with him.

Now, if you have to post up a rules board with 15-20 rules on it, it probably means nobody gives a shit enough to listen to you because they don't view you with reverence or respect enough to do so.

If you are hot chick you should be working out in spandex shorts and some kind of sports belly shirt.
she should do lots of exercises that involve bending over.
and those open and close your legs machines are a must every workout.

....my rules :)

Ok, fair enough but I'm sure you realize we're talking about two different situations. I posted the rules I have for my teams and on campus facilities, not a commercial gym. I also posted this to give the thread starter an idea, because thats what he asked for, like I said, he could use it and modify it to his needs.

As far as my rules are concerned, most are for safety reasons but also discipline, most kids don't know their way around a weight room and as kids go, they need structure. Example, the ipod rule. If a kid is listening to an ipod with 40 other kids in the room and they cannot either hear me, their spotter or anyone else trying to gain their attention, it's a hazard but in a couple of the school weight rooms they have good sound systems, when they ask me if they can bring CD's the answer is always yes as long as it's not vulger, whatever it takes to motivate they're ass to train, they can bring it. The water and water bottle only rule is basically to keep the gym clean, spill anything other than water and it's a mess besides, water is the hydration liquid on the planet. You are right about one thing, it's hard to keep some kids motivated, it's not that they're not listening, most of the time it's because they are lazy, those are the one's that usually don't make the team and get cut. Varsity athletes are pretty easy to motivate because most want to win and they know that they are at that age, if talented enough could be on their way to a scholarship somewhere because they get looked at.

This is what I have for my school teams. Faculty leaves it up to me to set the rules.

Strength and Conditioning Weight Room Rules

4.   Food and drink are not permitted; the only exception is water in a plastic bottle

8.   Athletic wear is required.  Shorts, t-shirts, and athletic shoes are mandatory.

11.   Collars must be used when there is weight on the bar.

12.   Spotters must be used at all times.

Response to 4: Why water in a plastic bottle? Whynot water in a canteen, or something environmentally safe? Seems odd you would demand plastic.

Response to 8: Whynot sweatpants or sweatshirts? I work out in sweatpants all the time because I'm not comfortable in shorts in a gym. Also protects against infections

Response to 11: Even smith machines?

Response to 12: Even for calf raises, leg presses, leg extensions, dumbbell flys, concentration curls, dips, any cable work, most machines, etc?

Strength and Conditioning Weight Room Rules
1.   Student athletes must be on time for team workouts.

2.   Student athletes are required to fill out attendance book and workout sheets.

3.   No non-prescribed workouts will be permitted unless decided upon by the strength and conditioning coach.  You cannot do your own workout.

4.   Food and drink are not permitted; the only exception is water in a plastic bottle.

5.   No one is permitted to leave the facility during a training session-except in an authorized case of an emergency.  NO LEAVING A WORKOUT TO GET WATER-BRING A BOTTLE WITH YOU!

6.   Spitting is not permitted.

7.   No gum allowed.

8.   Athletic wear is required.  Shorts, t-shirts, and athletic shoes are mandatory.

9.   No jewelry (studs only) is permitted-leave in your locker.

10.   No cell phones, iPods, or electronics of any kind.

11.   Collars must be used when there is weight on the bar.  Safety racks must be in place during squat movements.

12.   Spotters must be used at all times.

13.   All weights must be racked after use; all equipment must be returned when finished.

14.   No dropping of weight plates or dumbbells.

15.   No horseplay.

16.   A strength and conditioning coach must be present for any and all workouts in the strength and conditioning facility.

17.   Respect the coach and facility.

Rack your weights when you're done

Take your shit with you when you've finished with the equipment. Cell phones will not 'reserve' a bench while you spend 10 minutes between each set talking to your mates.

NO GROUPS OF 3 OR MORE TEENAGERS WILL BE ALLOWED ANYWHERE NEAR ANY EQUIPMENT. (I ask again - what...the...fuck.... is it with groups of 3 teens who fucking come in and spend an hour lounging on shit and doing fuck all. FUCK they piss me off. Use the equipment and fuck off - this is not a fucking cafe!).

Ok - rant done - they're the rules I'd have on the wall.

You better not use gear, have fake tits, use a cellphone, tan, or enjoy any facet of life in or out of Gold's Gym Las Vegasthe facility.
