Yup, only song I think may be a bit of a throw back was All Nightmare Long or something like that. Actually, now that I think about it Hero of the Day was what made me stop listening - song sucked, and I caught a bit of the video which was corny as anything.....
I agree with this and everything else. Black was a great fucking album.....for another band other than Metallica. I kinda blame it on their working with Bob Rock who led them down the path to "nicer" metal. It was polished, had great hooks, was paced well and produced clean....again, great album for any other band.
And I'll actually give a pass to 'Load.' It has a special place in my black, metal heart. Everything after it was garbage. St. Anger tried WAY to hard to be "metal" to the point that it was obvious that Metallica was now a band that forgot how to reach into your chest and tear your still beating heart out. Death Magnetic was solid but it just wasn't enough to bring back the old ways and the old metal, too slick and to overly polished.
Hero of the Day made me want throw up, same thing with I Disappear, House that Jack Built etc. Just bad. But, they are still one of the greatest metal acts of all time. Kill 'em All through '...And Justice for All' prove that.
They just remind me of The Rolling Stones now, living on past accomplishments with current material that sounds like a really good cover band playing/copying The Rolling Stones.
