UFC 130 just took a huge hit as the third fight between Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard has been cancelled after both men suffered injuries. Quinton Jackson vs. Matt Hamill is now your main event with Frank Mir vs. Roy Nelson in the main supporting fight. MMA Fighting with the details:

UFC president Dana White confirmed to MMA Fighting that both fighters are out.

According to sources with knowledge of the situation, Edgar broke ribs, while Maynard suffered a knee injury.

Mir and Nelson could be a great fight...

jury's still out on Jackson and Hamil.

That's cool, I don't think another 5 round decision main event would have been prudent at this juncture. Mir and Nelson will do just fine.

I'm actually looking forward to Mir/Nelson. They've had a no gi BJJ match a while back, which went back and forth. Eventually Nelson wore Mir out and beat him on points. I've posted it here b4.

Now it's an MMA fight. Both have solid BJJ, both are about the same in stand up. Who knows. I think Nelson wins by TKO...

Ive seen that BJJ match, its pretty much classic Mir....starting off strong, then gassing out if he doesn't finish you in the first 3 minutes. He's a bit better with his cardio now a days, but I still think if you put the pressure and him and happen last longer than a round in a half, there is a good chance he's gonna start to fold. Nelson presents many potentially dangerous qualities, he is a better wrestler than Mir, he's just as good on the ground (by that I mean he's at a high enough level as a BJJ blackbelt that he can nullify just about anything Mir can throw at him as far as subs go), and his boxing and chin are pretty solid, plus he's got good cardio for a fat guy. I think that because of this, he can hang around long enough to put some pressure on Mir and eventually take him in the later half of the fight. I'm picking Nelson by late second or third round stoppage.

WTF is up with all the injuries as of the past 3 years? I remember fighters fighting WITH injuries. Its seems like these days any injury and the fighters is out.

Yeah i'm not too pissed by this cancellation. Maynard and Edgar are both great fighters, but i too dreaded a 5 round dragged out decision.

I haven't seen Bic Country fight since his TUF series, so i'm looking forward to his match up with Mir

Mir was considered a phenom when the field contained the likes of Tim Sylvia, Gan McGee, Andrei Arlovski & Wes Simms however none of those men would be considered top 15-20 today. The evolution of the sport is such that some champs of yesteryear can openly be considered nothing more than cans themselves, and whilst Frank is not that poor he is but a mere gatekeeper for the HW division.

His striking is excellent in comparison to what it was, his ground game is grade A but he is just missing something that would make him complete (not just cardio). He thought the extra size would take him to the top again but it did little to nothing for him. I think he will struggle with Nelson but could very well win by TKO in round 2 - and i know Nelson is granite and survived JDS but i just have a feeling..........

Did you watch the clip? Even with the weight advantage, Frank gets handled. I'm rooting for Frank but I think Roy TKOs him...

Frank is a better fighter but he is not very durable. He folds easily. Roy, on the other hand is very tough & gritty. This will be a good fight.

I don't think Frank folds easily. Looks at the beating he took from Lesnar in their first fight. He held in there and got the sub. Also, looks at his second fight with him. Took a HUGE beating and didn't tap etc. As I recall it was ref stoppage. Lesnar was brutal that fight.

I don't think Roy can put anything on Mir that Mir hasn't already been through. Mir, imo, is very underrated by most.

Let me qualify what I'm about to say by saying that Frank is one of my all time favorite fighters. There have been so many fights were he was supposed to get slaughtered and he came out on top. He broke Tim Silvia's arm. For that alone he should be in the UFC Hall of Fame (calm down Earl). He also came back from that horrific motorcycle accident. And, I've had the opportunity to talk with him on two occasions. You could talk to the guy for hours about MMA. He has some many different angles/takes on all sorts of topics.

All that said, he was lucky in the 1st Lesnar fight that the ref pulled Lesnar off him. When Frank gets hurt, he folds. Even if he doesn't tap, he stops fighting and it's over. Look at the Vera fight. Or the Carwin fight. If Roy lands one of those hooks, Frank will be in trouble.

Like I said. I'm rooting for him, but this is a tough matchup.

LOL. I was being facetious. Tim Silvia is probably the most overrated UFC Heavyweight fighter ever. I could not stand that big oaf being so highly regarded. And, I never liked any of the Miletich guys. They were all cocky POS. So, when Frank broke his arm I was elated. When Randy took his belt I was on cloud nine.
