no doubt.

for instance, i learned that most musicians (chili peppers, smashing pumpkins, etc) stick to one key only (mostly C) and never stray from it.

this of course, made me appreciate guitarists that don't get as much recognition for being guitar gods (andy summers, keith richards, etc).

One of my favorite underrated guys is Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits, his fingers are magic, same with more recognized guys like Gilmour who probably has the most ridiculous tone ever heard in music.

Many different musical styles require one to play ahead or behind the beat. It's pretty common.

This I know...I'm not making a generalization...Capt is.

Feel free to post some playing..

No need to, you couldn't tell if something was behind or ahead of the beat if it bit you on the ass. Typical guitarist you are, you're the reason I often hate telling people I play...

I was agreeing with you.  :)

Playing off time is used in virtually every style of legit music. Man, the foundation of swing music is playing ahead or behind the beat. It's all about the groove. Texas swing is ahead of the beat. A lot of sax music is played behind the beat.

Red Garland is known for playing ahead of the beat which is intended to 'push' the music forward.

May wanna check out some Lester Young too.

There's a huge difference Cap, between being unable to play on time and intentionally playing off time.

LOL, yes I stated that about 10 posts ago, you guys seemed to have missed it.

Obviously there are styles of music that focus on playing off the beat, rock isn;t one of those styles, and guitars are for the most part associated with rock and or metal not texas swing or etc.

This sounds "oh so familiar" -- same here. It took me years to post up vids of my "guitarring" on GB. This is a bodybuilding forum. What can we expect?

Most great guitar players are influence by much more than rock and it shows in their playing. What's called a 'grace-note' in rock in many times a note which leads into the beat. It's a rock staple. It's an off-time note.

Listen to Yngwie improvise live and you can hear how he plays around the beat.

Many jazz influenced metal players too, will be playing around the beat. Check out the guitar players in Scar Symmetry, Opeth, Daath or  listen to Chris Poland's stuff.

Same bat time, same bat channel. You're doing the same shit on here you've always done. Almost as bad as Squadfather, but not as creative (especially the second time around) and your arguments are as ambiguous as Sasha. I'm not comparing my playing to anyone. I'm merely describing things I'm seeing in your posts, in which you then come back a post or two later and try to say you said that before. ::)

As far as playing, I'm nothing flashy, guys like Yngwie and dyslexic play circles around me. You probably do to. And you know what, I don't care. I play what I do because I prefer to play what I do. That's the beauty of free will. Just like you posting here, however much I may disagree with you on certain points I still see what you're trying to say. However, you come back with some pedantic remark trying to sound really smart. You're a stolid man, Capt.

Now I have to go look up "pedantic" and 'stolid' -- I was hoping that they were mis-spellings. Fuck me.

Playing relaxed and with proper breathing is one the keys to playing with great technique. Good vids. Everyone I come across is a fan of Andy McKee these days.

Can't talk about guitars without these two gents...sans Al from that other famous night.

Both direct influences on my playing.

My all time favs as well, together with Al, simply amazing  ;)

Another young player to keep an eye on. Jazz this time.

Though Andreas hasnt got his execution down pat as yet, for his age, the kid is amazing. In time he hill be a force to be reckoned with.
