It does not impress anyone anymore, how many albums are Satch / Vai selling these days?? Zakk, will only sell albums off the back of Ozzy.
I never listen to shredding anymore, it was great when I was 20, but not anymore.
Angus Young, once said "it's not the notes that you play that count, it's the SPACE that you leave between them" - listen to ACDC "Back in Black" & you will get it  ;)

TBH, I don't think anyone actually ever purchased an album for the techy, guitar playing, other than other guitarists. ho-hum.

Greg Howe

Incredible Jazz Fusion guitarist, can also shred with the best of them.

/End Thread

I love his acoustic tribute to Legendary shredder Jason Becker

The first video is one of my favorite acoustic songs.

The second is an amazing display of technique. A must see

Classical guitar is a whole other ball game. IMO The greatest classical concert guitarists (Andre's Segovia, John Williams) are far above the likes of Vai etc in terms of technique and precision

Nigel Tufnel plays it on eleven!

I was wondering when some-one would make this thread go in the direction of "Spinal Tap" I loved that film, best rock parody ever.
Every Muso, who takes them-selves to seriously should be forced to watch this film every day.

Love Petrucci and Dream Theater.

I go on Vai's website and YouTube channel from time to time and the vids he puts out are pretty fucking cool and really do give some insight into his playing and such.

His quote, and I'm paraphrasing, was "You know, you can play fast, shred and go crazy nut if the notes don't mean anything then it's really meaningless."

That was pretty cool as he was talking about creating a song modeled after Romanian wedding music or something.

Cool as shit.

Okay he's not playing a super strat, and he has tons of ability, but shitloads of gains and shitloads of notes does not necessarily the best guitarist ever make. Plus he has that scooped annoying sound. Badass for rock/metal though.

Personal preference...to say one of these guys "couldn't' play another's lick is assinine...they are all monstrously talented and can basically do whatever the fuck they want on a guitar.

you like the bluesy sound and "feel"...I don't...I want to hear some shit i've never heard before..not the same old..."my baby done left me/ now what will i do/ got no money in my pockets/and a hole in my shoe..i got's the BLUES baby"

I think people who worship the blues and think they are "purists' are myopic fools...you can find just as much "feel' in an insanely distorted solo on a state of the art ibanez... as you can in one played on a single pickup POS thru a shitty amp. it's whats in the dude's mind that is playing that counts

and you can find a hack "bluesman" just as easily as you can find a hack "shredder".....shitty is shitty

nothing worse than being the bass player, standing between two jerkoffs having a volume duel on lead guitar.

STFU and let me slap/pop fellahs.
LOL!!!
