or a tired 68 year old knowing he's about to lose and emotionally wrecked...

No.  Newt is not m favorite by farm and I agree he probably over did it because of the audience.    It's politics and it's stupid.   Same. Looked genuine?  The best politicians are usually the best liars which unfortunately usually leaves the best man for the job in a losing position. Politicians are often very good actors able to play to their target audience--that's all I see here.  Newt has a lot to lose with women considering his history.  This was staged and important at the right time and to the right audience.  This is how liars win and the honest lose time after time--a good number suckers help too.
