whether they power lifters or not these guys should have been putting more impressive #'s than that. there are BB at my and gyms i have been in, in the past who are natural that hit 225 15-20. so you are going to tell me nasser can't do 20 push ups? the man is 270 and 225 is 80% of his weight. i expect a BB to have more endurance than a PWL any way. they do  a build up[ to a one hit max where as BB do a higher rep scheme to tear down muscle. i am 195 with no considerable strength and i can do 225 for 9 which was embarrassing until this.

I know Christian and I would almost bet he had never done 405 incline ever in his life.

I'm 225 and I did 225 for 8 the other day (at gold venice actually, outside - how very socal) just to prove a point to myself.

I'm not sure what point it proved as such but I do know that by the time i've added another 45lbs to my frame, I hope to be able to bench a bit more than nasser can.

That's all. really. Oh and I bought a golds venice t-shirt while i was there. in case anybody's interested.

I totally agree with Division, bodybuilders are not Powerlifters. Hell alot of bodybuilders dont even bench press anymore. It can be a very risky movement to do if you go extremely heavy. I will say though 15 reps is pretty lousy, well not pretty lousy, really lousy hell i train teenage footbal players that can do it that much.  later
Mike Wolfe ~ pro bencher ~ 825 pound contest bench!!!!

The problem is, you put up 825 pounds but you fail to mention that you use a bench shirt. Big difference between 600 and 800 pounds. People that aren't familiar with the bodyarmor powerlifters use will assume you are lifting raw. You should put 825 with a bench shirt or it seems misleading.

Oh now you have started something, now we will be forced to listen to guys such as Louis Simmons spewing such nuggets of informed insight as

"have you ever seen a bench shirt lift 800lbs on its own?"

This bench shirt stuff is completely ridiculous. If they develope a titanium armour suit I guarantee someone will come on here and boast about their 2000 pound bench press. All the kids will be so impressed until they find out the truth. They will be able to bench press 300 raw and 2000 with the suit LOL! The raw bench press should be all that matters. You shouldn't be able to boast about a lift if you're using a device that adds over 200 pounds. I'm skeptical about his 600 pound raw bench. He's not even sure "600-700..."

A few things

- The NFL combine record is actually 43 reps now.  It was just set this last spring.

-

I know that Glenn Kulka who used to play in the CFL 10+ years ago and then was in WWF for a short time (with Hart family) back when he was playing hed the pro footbal record of 53 reps....

Well I undrestand your views on the bench shirt, but what you must understand is that this is the way unfortunately that our sport has turned. If you wish you cand read ,y interview on criticalbench.com and you will see my opinion on both shirted and raw. And Yes i can bench well over 600 raw, you can look atthe July issue of Powerlifting usa and in the back I did a guest raw lift of a very very very easy 600 pounds. Do I wish we did not use bench shirts? Yeah sometimes, but you no what to get anywhere in the sport of Benchpressing you got to evolve with the sport,so I evolved! Do I plan on lifting in a raw meet? Yes you can look at my posts on monstermuscle.com's powerlifting forum. I did fail to mention that I use a bench shirt on my 1st post but i have done 500 raw for 10 reps pretty easily and I have done 405 for 22 reps raw!!!! I dont care if any of you guys beleive me or not, I am considered in my sport World Class which is I'm sure better then most of you bashing me are in your sport. I love bodybuilding it is where i started but I decided i wanted to be a Bencher more and took that route. I make money at my sport do you guys bashing me make money at your sport? Did'nt think so!I am kinown arouind the world in my sport are any of you bashing on me known throughout the world? Again did not think so.

Bench shirts do give me extra weight on my bench, and yes I wear one when I compete but like i said it is part of my sport. And no putting on a bench shirt will not make you a 800 pounde bencher!!!!! You need to work on it if it did there would be more then 17 guys doing it. Just my opinion bash me if you want but I wont bash you backi cause i respect the sport you guys are in.

Jesus Christ Mike, read your own post back: '825 in a shirt' (specific) 'well over 600 raw'

well over? WELL FUCKING OVER??? WHAT DOES THAT MEAN??

Shirts are here only because of the inroads John Inzer made into FUCKING UP powerlifting with this shite way back in the early 90's, if that bastard had not of poisoned the game with his needle and thread you wouldnt be facing the barrage of piss-taking that you currently are

Oh and again, did you read your post back before clicking the 'post' button, this particular nugget had me pissing myself:

Quote
And no putting on a bench shirt will not make you a 800 pounde bencher!!!!! You need to work on it

So - essentially -  what you are saying is that bench shirts are cheating, only, they are a form of cheating you have to 'work at'?, shit, thats all of us critcs told, fuck me, now that you have shown us the light, I dont know why we even bothered

Utter bollocks

a bench shirt is essentially a heavy duty shirt that a bench presser will wear to assist them lift the weight, it really is that simple to define

The shirts are made from thick elastic type 'springy' material such as denim/lycra - or whatever other material can be best used to cheat - and is essentially no different to putting rocket boots onto a runners shoes

The shirts are so thick and tight that they often require three guys to help the lifter into them, and once into them, the lifter is so restricted that he cannot move his arms unless under the weight of a heavy bar, shit, when wearing some shirts, some guys say they cannot  lower anything less than 500lb to their chest because the shirt wont flex under such 'lightweight'

In short, its bollocks

that is all

It doesnt make sense why they are allowed then - there should be two contests: 1) Bench Record (No Assist) and 2) Bench Record Assisted

So...I can only "bench" LOL - something like 100 pounds maybe!  If I wear a bench shirt I can lift much much more?   Scary  :o

nothing would be more embarassin than tellin somone u can bench say 500lbs when withouth the shirt u can only bench 3... and the call you out on it.. and you dont have a shirt.. what are u gonna say i benched 300 now.. but i can bench 500 with a shirt...????...
if u cnt bench it raw... then its not a legit bench...
thats like sayin i can lift a car.... well the back 2 wheels but when u attach a crane i can lift the whole thing..

LOL, there are two sets of records, assisted and unassisted (there are many different feds but essentially thats what it comes down too)

To put it into perspective, the assisted record is 1005lbs by Gene Rychlak, whereas the RAW record is 715lbs by Scott Mendelson (he may have broken it since, but my memory is foggy) the point being that the RAW record is sub 740 and has been for years

To be blunt, the RAW record has hardly changed in decades, yet, the assisted record changes as often as a good girls panties

The assisted guys can delude themselves they are lifting these new records, but - and as said - its nothing other than a pathetic spectacle

When Gene broke the 1000 barrier (and in doing so making the bench press a bigger lift than the deadlift) I really struggled to find any lifters that gave a fuck, its really is that much of a joke

I find this a great ego boost for myself really...i did 18 reps without a spot with 225 last night just to see. it's hard to believe a natural could even compete with these guys.

i also would like to see powerlifting done RAW but that won't happen. there is a guy at my gym who benches the same amount i do RAW and he's well over 500 with a shirt. i guess i should borrow his shirt and then maybe i'll have a 500 pound bench to brag about!!! awesome!!!!!!!
