Current = Ray Donovan, Coronation street
Old shows = dozens
Thanks for indulging me.
I've not seen Ray Donovan, but I don't doubt it's good; the premise is cool and it has an outstanding cast (Paula Malcomsen is extremely underrated -- *amazing* on Deadwood!). Personally, I have a hard time seeing how GoT flat-out sucks in comparison, but meh -- no biggie.
As for Coronation Street, I admit that I've a hard time taking a soap opera seriously. What makes it better than GoT in your estimation?
As for lots of older shows, I don't really see it. Deadwood and Rome were incredible, but it's hard to compare any of those. Carnivale was great but its early cancelation ruined its ending. The Sopranos was very good but very full of itself and, I felt, totally overrated: the symbolism was always totally ham-fisted, many characters were simply "there" to serve as foils for and contrasts against Big T, realism was ridiculously lacking at many points (remember how Moltisanti would literally *throw* his gun forward when he shot at someone?), and talk about convenience! There were multiple instances in which Tony should've been crucified by LEO and he escaped imprisonment ... because :/
What does that leave?
. Some of the Star Trek series were good. TNG had some great stuff for TV, especially at the time. Babylon 5 did some good storytelling in spite of the awful CGI and sometimes questionable acting.
Sherif, I'm familiar with your posts, so I know you're no dummy. I am genuinely interested in learning about your old favs and why you think they're vastly superior to Thrones.
