I like the look and tone, quantum of solace was a huge let down after casino royale.
Moore was always my favourite Bond, more action in the movies by then and loved the wisecracks. But I grew up on that era of Bond.
Today Daniel Craig is doing a great job with the character.

True, lots of space ships, men in super-hero dresses and capes, aliens and mutants.  ::) ::) ::)

Must I spell everything out ??? Obviously I'm refering to cutting! You know.. As in editing and pacing and music for the trailer

Re-inventing is such a good thing! Let's make all action movies in one mold! Saves the film industry time and effort. Looking forward to the fourth Hulk rendition, he really needs to be re-invented again...

He said so!

Why would I leave a voice crying out from the desert for help, alone?

He is young, but moldable.

ah, but what is bigger? His penis, or his nose?

This actually looks okay, but these aren't Bond films in my eyes.

Casino Royale was possibly my least enjoyable cinema excursion. The only film that's almost had me asleep. After that i didn't even give Quantum of Solace a shot.

LOL, 1st thing I thought as well.

Although the trailer definatley had a "Prometheus trailer" type vibe, dark brooding music over cuts of the flick.

I grew up with Moore as Bond too, but once I saw the older Connery films I knew he was second best.
At this point, for me Moore is third after Connery and Craig.

Le Chiffre played an awesome villain in Casino Royale.  He also played a good role in King Arthur (starring Clive Owen).  King Arthur was a really good movie as well.

Hidden Gem for sure.  Has alot of famous actors, and has an interesting twist on the King Arthur story.  Claims that Arthur was a Sarmation Knight.

Maybe, but Craig is the perfect actor for the current generation of Bond movies.

god no that was the low point

but the playfulness, humour, charm and refreshing male chauvinism of the classic 007 is pretty washed out now

Casino Royale was a classic bond flick.  Quantam of Solace was pure shit.  Hopefully, the latest movie is good.

King Arthur was badass and Mads role was the best character in King Arthur.

Looks like you guys have never read the novels....

The last three movies, THAT was Bond. Surely, in the later novels there is a bit more womanizing and humor, but all in all Bond is much darker and grittier, like in those last three movies.

The movie series took off great with Connery, but also there saw a change to be too much gadgets, too much flat humor, George Lazenby was ok, then Roger Moore HORRIBLE HORRIBLE shit, all the movies are crap, Timothy Dalton brought Bond back to his roots again, then Brosnan took a good start but then made the worst movies, all one-liners, flat as shit, horrible gadgets and technology.

The only good thing about the last Brosnan movie was Halle Berry.

Daniel Craig is a great Bond, the only thing you can hold against him is the hair color, lol. Quantum of Solace should be watched directly after Casino Royale though, that is his weakness, it's not really a second movie but more appendix to the first one. And the bad guy was an eco-terrorist, which was quite a nice change from a guy in a white suit with a cat on his arm wanting to rule the world through a whatever nuclear device.

The villains in the novels are much more down to earth, no such thing as space stations and stuff, way better.

I like contemporary re-conceptualizations of Bond, and Craig fits the bill perfectly. I've never had a problem with characters and characterizations that go in new directions. Literature is built on such deviations: for example, think of the intertextual continuities and discontinuities between Homer's Iliad/Odyssey, Virgil's Aeneid, Dante's Commedia, and Joyce's Ulysses. Another example that comes to mind is the difference between Sophocles' Ajax and the Ajax of Ovid's Metamorphoses (where Ajax loses his bid for Achilles' armor to Odysseus).

Stories are refashioned to meet new needs. A great part of originality and creation is not to create ex nihilo, but to contravene prevailing ideas and wisdom by giving them a new twist. Stories undergo evolutionary pressures, and, as cultural artifacts, usher in new paradigms of meaning and interpretation. If you think that Connery or Moore were best as Bond, then go watch those Bonds over and over. Same with the novels. Films based on novels don't have to stay true to those novels. I like Craig's Bond. He retains a lot of Bond's essential cosmopolitan traits, shows flashes of good old Cold War indifference, but with the added badassery one might expect to find in contemporary action films.
