$90M midtown penthouse tops mark for priciest New York City apartment

Duplex bought by 'someone people would recognize' at One57 caps string of huge deals

Record-setting buyer at One57 should get a Central Park view like this for his or her $90 million.

The record for the city’s priciest apartment shattered like a fallen chandelier when a buyer agreed to pay more than $90 million for a penthouse duplex at One57 in midtown.

The deal follows two mega sales: $52.5 million for a 740 Park Ave. duplex owned by the widow of late Time Warner chairman Steve Ross, and the $70 million casino owner Steve Wynn paid for a Central Park South condo.

"New York has never seen a week like this," said CORE associate broker Jarrod Guy Randolph.

A rendering of the 10,923-square-foot duplex penthouse on the 89th and 90th floors of One57.

The exact price for the six-bedroom pad at the unfinished One57 building opposite Carnegie Hall was not disclosed, but the developer told the New York Times it surpassed the $88 million Russian magnate Dmitri Rybolovlev paid at 15 Central Park West.

The buyer was described as “someone people would recognize.”

One57, currently under construction, is a 90-story midtown tower at 157 W. 57th St. It dwarfs Trump World Tower, formerly the highest residential building in New York, by 18 floors.

Central Park stretches out beneath floor-to-ceiling windows of the 10,923-square-foot duplex penthouse on the 89th and 90th floors like a front lawn.

The marble-wrapped master bathrooms in the apartment’s upper floor sport two water closets, one with a bidet, as well as floor-to-ceiling, custom-made walnut cabinetry and flatscreen televisions.

The building’s L-shaped design boasts undulating glass panels that evoke multiple cascading waterfalls.

The sales office for the building is by appointment only, and even the pitch is dramatic. After watching a two-minute film about the building set to classical music, potential buyers view architectural models of the site. Then floor plans light up a curved IMAX-sized screen in a library area accessorized with a giant aquarium.

Yep.  Keep a van at the gym and a van at the buffet, you're set for life.

100 mill?  I guarantee that the developers wouldn't even consider you if your net worth is a 100 mill.  What do you think the property taxes alone on the penthouse would be?

If those are the prices for just one apartment in the building, makes you wonder what the entire buildings are worth? Billions?

NYC is crazy.  I live here.   You can be amongst unbelievable wealth and ghetto poverty literally within 2 to 5 minutes.
