Great video, and it should be required watching for various US towns and cities to emulate.

Government workers are paid way too much.  Police officers, firefighters, and mid-level bureaucrats have no business making 6 figure salaries (with OT) and generous tax-funded pensions and healthcare.  Public sector unions have also helped destroy town and city coffers by constantly pushing for unsustainable pay and making it difficult to fire personnel.

Non-unionized privatized government services(including police and fire) that pay their own healthcare with 401k-style retirement plans are the future.....and that is a good thing.  Higher standards, less cost, and balanced budgets.

Seeing what goes on where I live w the parks department and sanitation I am in full favor of privatization.

Good thread PIP and good vid.  I hope this gets a lot of discussion here.  I spent a lot of years arguing against this kind of thing but over the past few years have been questioning my thinking.  I would love to see everyone weigh in on this thread.  And I think there are a lot of factors to consider so I really hope everyone jumps in on this.  We talk enough about Obama and Romney, lets not forget to spend time on shit like this.  It's just as important.

yea but consider where you are from.  You have a history of rampant corruption. The majority of towns in America are small towns without the same kind of problems big towns and cities have in this area.  It might be easy for one city to make an example but will that work better for other towns and cities across America?  This is a complex issue because of all the factors. I would would love to hear everyone's opinon on this shit.

Thanks, my mid sized city has had the benefit of a couple Fortune 500 companies and hundreds of smaller supporting businesses.  Our streets are crumbling, we have constant water main breaks and sink holes. Our parks aren't maintained and all of our public pools have been shut down.  Police and Fire are like 85% of our budget and they keep putting levies on the ballet for even more money.  It's truly insane.  We have a couple cops making like $150,000 and the median income here is about $60,000.
