Another Commander in Chief, President Richard Nixon, referred to the speech during his 1974 resignation, saying "Sometimes I have succeeded, and sometimes I have failed, but always I have taken heart from what Theodore Roosevelt once said about the man in the arena, 'whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood....'"
