I don't think you realise the state Russia was in before Putin took charge... there was practically no middle class. Just rich and poor. I personally went to St. Petersburg in 1999 and again in 2010. The difference was night and day. You could see it people's faces, literally.

Maybe now that Russia is recovering they can start addressing fundamental democratic issues... then again you have to remember that Russia does not have any sort of democratic tradition.

By not addressing fundamental democratic issues they might survive, look what its done to the west, bred a generation of lazy parasites who look to hate and sponge of the few. Democracy is overated, and abused, and breeds weak leaders like Obama, Putin is a standout in world politics.
