Alexey Lesukov, one of the most popular amateur bodybuilders, has just won his pro bodybuilding card, fact that automatically allows him to compete from now on in every contest pro contest where there are no invitations required. The fact is, and this is why I think that he shouldn’t of earned the pro card, that he did not deserve to become a professional bodybuilder.

Usually, a bodybuilder can achieve the PRO status if he or she:
becomes world champion at the IFBB Amateur World Bodybuilding Championships;
wins Arnold Amateur Classic;
wins the first place in the NPC;

Did Lesukov win any of the above? No!
 And yet, this is the announcement he made this morning:

As I was saying, although he’s insanely big and can definitely make some problems to some of the pro athletes, he’s never won anything in his whole career.

It seems that the Russian bodybuilding federation was not satisfied of the fact that Alexey was not offered the pro card. It seems that they made serious efforts to change this so Lesukov can finally become full time professional.

So yes, he earned () his pro card and it seems that he will also receive an invitation for Arnold Classic Europe 2013.  But if you ask me, this decision is an extremely dangerous precedent for the whole IFBB. There are guys competing in the NPC who have been trying for years to get their Pro status without any success. And yet, due to some stupid policies and also because he’s sponsored by Peak International, a guy from Russia can compete at most of the upcoming pro contests in 2013 an they can’t."

As you've probably heard before, there's a debate going about how they give pro cards, the last couple of years. Even Bob Chick addressed this, during his interview with Dave "Madmax".

Well the Russians have as much right to issue pro cards as the states, Canada and England but the Russian nationals never did give pro cards away because there was simply not enough competition but now the nationals bring in tons of bodybuilders, the numbers have grown tremendously so they should have a pro rep in that region to give out pro cards.

The rules to obtain should be the same for every country, but the number of pro cards they give away is much higher in the past. This has impact on the quality of the average pro. On the other hand, it's a smart way to make amateur shows more attractive, both for the competitors as the public.
