So you're in favour of continuing the current benefits package the unemployed receive whereabouts the need to be in gainful employment is ... not needed? If a squeeze on their 'income' isn't acceptable, what is?
I doubt white flight has any economic bearing. Cultural more likely.
The "current benefits package", LOL. You can't even live on that in the first place. Even before the changes that took place this month, the Tories cut housing benefit dramatically staight after they came to power. If you're single and under-35 you only get enough housing benefit to pay for house-share... never mind that in many areas these types of tenancies don't exist. So if you live in say, a one bedroom-flat that costs £700 and the council only gives you £550, you'll have to take the rest out of your jobseeker's allowance, which is *drum-roll* a massive £73 a week in average.
How much does that leave mate?
Even assuming you move out of your flat into a cheaper place because (as the current Tory narrative goes) you shouldn't live so "high" being unemployed can you still make it on £73 a week?
Your problem is you've read so much Daily Fail that you think every person on benefits is a mum with eight kids living in a Victorian townhouse on the taxpayer's expense.
Reality check: these people are a tiny, tiny minority and they will always be there regardless. Most of the claimants are disabled or unwell or made-redudant or too old for anyone to hire them (do you know what happens to a 50-year-old who is laid off?) or too young (like straight out of uni), etc, etc.
The thing is you go for the easy targets mate... the immigrants and the jobless. You're thinking the way you're expected to. Divide and conquer. It's been going on for ages.
