The value of what one does
« on: August 22, 2013, 03:41:09 AM »
What are your explanations for the staggering disparities between how some people earn money. Why does an athlete, entertainer, corporate whore, etc earn incredible amounts while someone else barely scrapes by.

Do you feel that society reflects reality?

Yes, because society is reality.
Sporstmen earn big money, thats reality.
Other people earn a pittance, thats reality.

What is it you are asking?

People are insecure. That insecurity causes them to strive less, which in turn causes them to live out their fantasies vicariously, instead of nutting up and actually doing something worthwile themselves.

If you strive more you don't need a fantasy world, removing the root cause of overpaid athletes.

The op is basically asking why do other people get a better deal than him and is it fair.

Well, some people have a worse deal than because lifes like that.

Is it fair that people have to die everyday from cancer and other diseses, no its not fair, but again lifes like that.

Stop moaning about how well off other people are and take a look at how worse off some people are.
Enjoy your life, its the only one you will ever have.

Wealth distribution is obviously not fair. Greed is an age old human characteristic that will never die.

Factories, retail stores etc... can afford to pay way more than minimum wage and still turn in huge profits.

It's their right to make as much profit as they can....retail stores are not here to give jobs or benefits, they are here to make money for their owners/shareholders thats it......further the labor and management issue will never be resolved as once said....

That's not right. The workers make profits possible, especially in manufacturing. I'm not saying wal-mart workers ought to be paid 50K/yr, but 7/hr is slave wage for north america.

That is what capitalism is. Can't have the good without the bad.

Workers can be replaced....capital cannot. Ugly truth. Without capital there are no companies, without workers...well there are always workers.

as long as workers (= minimum wage apes) put value on so called talented munkeys=singers, actors, "athlets"" (buy t shirts , buy tabloids, let the tv on the kardashians asses all day long) and not on real quality humans like .. ronnie rockell, mustafa mohamed or craig titus the bodybuilding art will try to survive by making love to graprefuits, Lets all wake up before isnt to late!

Workaholic ~ could mean 2 or 3 job titles, maybe more, possibly working weekends, and still pushing even when you should be sleeping.

Do it while you are young.

Develop multiple skills. That way, when something ends, you have something else to fall back on.

Exactly. Didn't Chris Rock do a skit years ago about this exact thing?

Its all about supply and demand of your particular skillset.

Exactly!!  There's only one Michael Jordan, Lebron James, Kobe Bryant, Tony Parker, etc.......this is some of the the best talent in the world of basketball.  These cats earn more in one game than I do in a year because there are 4 of them and 1000s of me.
