I had zero restrictions on film, video games and any media growing up. I played any game I wanted, watched any movie I wanted, read any book or magazine that I wanted. I had an Eazy-E cassette tape in 4th grade.
I haven`t killed anyone just yet.
X2
Played Mortal Kombat, in the arcade, didn't ever want rip a guys arm or head off. Watched the original Robocop when I was 8-9 yrs old, and when they gunned downed Peter Weller's character and glorified being a cop-killer, I didn't go out and get jumped into a gang and start shooting cops, Played the precursor to GTA, "Kingpin life of crime" had a rape scene, and all the profanity as you can imagine, and yes I also remember my uncle buying me Straight outta Compton when I was in the 6th grade.
The problem is that kids are on all forms of medications for depression, ADHD, etc and do not go out and climb trees, play football, etc.
The whole situation of video games has not changed- we are just older, and when my uncle watched me play Doom, (which is just as violent as Call of Duty, just without the graphics) he always made sure to tell me it was "just a game" and made me still do chores, and do my homework, because I respected him, and the games were a reward
Gaming prepared me for my career as a PA, moreover, it ENHANCED my laparoscopic skills (while I assist in the OR) not only for hand-eye coordination, but also being able to visualize the operative view three-dimensionally. This was also the reason I did well in math, being able to recognize the graphs and how they moved in functions in algebra; and limits in calculus. (Ever see how smart those guys that make the games are? I.E John Carmack,) ANY person with a healthy brain, can do whatever they want and be able to tell the difference between right and wrong furthermore, change their given situation. Like I said before, My uncle marveled at what kind of technology we had when I was younger, so in my mind I knew what to expect when I reached his age.
The problem is not the games, it's that kids don't want to be like their parents, Parents want to be like their kids.
