Refs need to know Grappling.

If you haven’t done some Brazilian jiu-jitsu, or a form of grappling, UFC president Dana White does NOT find you qualified to officiate MMA.

White said on Wednesday evening that referees and judges employed by athletic commissions overseeing MMA events SHOULD have experience “rolling” before ever being considered for their jobs.

Problem with Dana's statement is that what he thinks is irrelevant to the NSAC. They will do as they please so as long as the UFC keeps having their events in Las Vegas.

He's right and you're right.  Judges with only experience in judging boxing and point karate don't have the understanding to score an mma bout.  They are at the equivalent level of understanding possesed by the average bar patron. They can not conceptualize what is happening.  Instead of seeing a fighter moving into position, they see two guys rolling around doing nothing because grappling can be very subtle.
