While reading through a 1998 issue of FLEX, yesterday, I read an article about Marko Savolainen, from Finland. He was a great promise to the sport, and perhaps the second strongest pro at the time-after Greg Kovacs. Do any of you guys know what happened to him?

I heard he was eaten by a polar bear while hunting them near the artic circle during the Finnish summer.

marko had great arms and a great back, but he was never able to get in good enough condition for a show.

much like dennis james- looks great in the offeseason, but cant get it together for the show.

he's still pretty young -early 30's but perhaps needs to work with someone to get in shape (watch those kidney's chad)

a very strong dude. claims lifts like 660 bench (raw) and smith squats about 795 for 8 reps.

his bi's are among the best ever.

Like other Norsemen, he has a monster strengh. You're right about him as a bodybuilder, though:he just can't get it right, for a contest. Peter McGough once said Marko has the structure and taper of muscle to be the new Dorian. While he certainly has long muscle bellies, his structure is stockier than dorian's, but with a lower shoulder-to-hip ratio. He definitely has great pro potential, even if perhaps not to be Mr.O.
