Heath.  It would take a current Mr. O dropping dead to get the IFBB stirring.
yep...I was going to say this.

maybe had Paul Dillet dropped dead on the Arnold Classic stage, rather than merely freezing and being carried off by 4 dudes, the bodybuilding world would've been rocked to its core?

Nah.

well it would've been a public relations nightmare for Arnold ... at a time when his image mattered.

well, a current or recent MrO would cause a stir.. phil or Jay.

Ronnie you could see coming maybe.. because of his age and appearance.

I'd say Flex Wheeler dying would cause a stir.

Not saying I wish this to happen to the Champ, but if it happened on stage, not only would the bbing world be rocked, but the supp/drug world as well. And I think the mainstream media would take notice and would talk about how widespread the abuse of certain drugs are.

Wasn't the Dillet incident close enough? It didn't make a dent.

Like that other farce of a "sport", professional wrestling, bodybuilding would simply replaced the "fallen warrior" with another sock monkey and the show would go on.

all Dillett did was freeze. And this is a different era. An era of 24 hour news outlets, bad info, slanted news info, and young folk starving for attention and news outlets starving for news, particularly bad news. Anything to make a buck and to exploit a bad situation. And then an exposé of the subculture and drugs of bbing...by CNN or Fox

Because "The Show MUST go on."

Can't stop the flow of money because of one death or two...

I think something happening at the Arnold would be different than the Olympia. Arnold has an image to be concerned with, and I don't think he's been crazy about the direction the "sport" has been heading anyway. He might react to something dramatic like that.

yeah, he made a comment about the guts...
I swear Arnold needs to step in Weider's place now...it's almost a given. He was almost like Weider's son, if not groomed to be some sort of protege.

I doubt any death would do it. The bodybuilding world is all about 'it won't happen to me.'

Arnold would still be big.

I don't think any of the current pros would be a big one, most folks that have been around the hobby for sometime understand that it is a risk filled one.

The only thing that might give it pause is an on stage death at either the Arnold or Olympia. That might cause some reflection for those in the hobby, much in the way that a boxer dying in the ring or a footballer taking a bad hit does. At least for a few days.

Until the fans stop demanding to see competitors push the limits of size and "conditioning" nothing will change - because its all about the $ for those in charge. I hate the word conditioning being used - anyone that has played a sport at a high level knows what true conditioning means and there is nothing of the sort in BB. BB has become a dieting contest and there is nothing healthy about it. Its the most dangerous short-term AND along-term aspect of this sport. The guys that argue it nots that bad because you only hold that condition" for a short time totally miss the point of just how harmful it is. We watch guys injure themselves and cause health problems at every single contest. What other sport is there where the fans CELEBRATE their favorite athlete HURTING themselves??? Makes no sense and I confess that as a younger competitor I was very guilty. I am fortunate to have caused no damage that I know of but I never was a proponent of diuretic use. I admit it wasn't for health reasons - I just knew that they aren't needed if you are lean enough and often totally screw the competitor up at the end and cause an entire contest prep to go down the shit hole

No way.  They would just have blamed it on "food poisoning due to bad chicken breasts" or some other retarded lie.

Parker has a point, though. If the media got wind, I mean seeing a dude expire on stage all over Youtube, they might investigate, blow the lid off this nonsense.

Chick's the reigning master's champion, athletes' rep, and the voice of professional bodybuilding so surely his untimely death would resonate with many?
