Nitro from American Gladiators had a heart attack!

x-"American Gladiators" star Nitro was hospitalized for a HEART ATTACK on Wednesday, TMZ has learned ... and Nitro tells us he thinks STEROIDS played a factor.

Dan Clark says he experienced intense chest pains while working out at an L.A. gym that night ... and then his left arm went numb.

Nitro asked a buddy to drive him to a nearby urgent care center ... where they quickly realized he was having a heart attack and put him in an ambulance for a nearby hospital.

Once Nitro arrived to the hospital, he was rushed into emergency surgery to remove a blood clot in one of his arteries. During the procedure, doctors fitted Nitro with a brand new stent.

Nitro says the whole thing was a shock 'cause he's in peak physical condition ... and believes the heart attack may have been a result of the YEARS of steroid abuse from his days as a Gladiator.

According to Nitro, 'roids weren't viewed as taboo back in the AG heyday ... it was just part of the culture.

Clark says he's confident he'll make a full recovery and says the worst part about the whole ordeal ... he can't workout for a month.

Clark has made a cottage industry with his anti steroid rants. He use to book TV show appearances with such titles "Steroids gave me man boobs."

My wife had a heart attack as did my grandparents, and father. No steroids there Danny.

i thought he had been off the "juice" for literally since that show went off that air which is what 20 years ago? and only now is he getting a heart attack from any usage? really?..

hmm, let's see little of any work since that show went off the air in terms of acting..

writes a book about gladiators and steroid use a few years ago....

and now announces (as if so many even remember him or him being on that show or that show itself) that he THEE NITRO had a heart attack and he thinks it's from his steroid use ( albeit 20 years ago and how much was he even using because compared to the other "gladiators" it must not have been much!)..

" so what's our next publicity move, agent/pr guy?"....sorry if i sound jaded but jeez c'mon...

That's a great point Gal because I have seen many 40 somethings go down in the corporate world and three died from drug and alcohol abuse.  Guys were pulling down 300k plus a year (one worked for me) but the money was never enough and my employee was always stressed from the debt he accumulated..sad..

Dan "Nitro" Clark (born May 21) is an American athlete, television personality, author, actor, and producer. He is best known for his role as gladiator Nitro on the TV show American Gladiators. He is also an in demand health and fitness expert and the creator of the "Gladiator Rock'n Run".

Biography[edit]

Clark began his career as an athlete, playing football for San Jose State University where he was a standout defensive lineman. Clark was also a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. He then went on to play briefly for the Los Angeles Rams of the NFL, and in the Professional European League.

Clark, a health and fitness expert, is best known from the game show American Gladiators, having worked on both the original version and the revival; from 1989–92, and again in 1994-95, he was the gladiator Nitro; during the original show's final season, he was the analyst and co-host for the show. In the 2008 revival, he is the coordinating producer for the show. The original series aired in over 40 countries, with reruns on USA Network, TNT, Spike, and airs currently ESPN Classic. The revival aired on NBC.

When American Gladiators returned to the U.S. airwaves on ESPN Classic on April 1, 2007, the network aired a marathon of episodes. Clark was the on-air host for that marathon, telling behind-the-scenes stories and trivia about the series in between the episodes. Clark also conducted an ESPN chat session related with the show and was one of the producers of the revamped "American Gladiator" on NBC that debuted to over 40 million viewers in 2010 making it one of the highest rated debuts of the season.

After American Gladiators, Clark turned to acting, appearing in such motion pictures as Death Becomes Her, with Meryl Streep, Bruce Willis, and Goldie Hawn; and Equilibrium, with Christian Bale. He has also guest starred in TV series including Ellen, Walker, Texas Ranger, California Dreams, V.I.P., Married… with Children, Who's the Boss?, Saved by the Bell, and The Brothers García.

Clark was the writer/director/producer of the independent film Looking for Bruce. He has also written several screenplays for various studios, producers, and production companies, including a bio-pic Battle of Harlem, about the first African American police officer in the NYPD.

Dan wrote his memoir Gladiator: A True Story of 'Roids, Rage, and Redemption for Simon and Schuster. Published in February 2009.

Clark has appeared on a variety of talk shows including: The Tonight Show, Good Morning America, CBS Morning News, Today, "The Ticket", and Live with Regis and Kathy Lee. He has also graced the cover of TV Guide and numerous other magazines.

Clark enjoys all sports, yoga, acting, writing and martial arts (he has a black belt in Tae Kwon Do) and is often called on to perform his own stunts. Since 2002 he has also been a mentor in the Young Story Tellers program which is dedicated to increasing literacy among inner city youths. Clark makes his home in the Hollywood Hills and can often be found walking his Labrador Retriever, Ella, at nearby Runyon Canyon Park.

Dan is the creator of the "Gladiator Rock'n Run." One of the top obstacle adventure runs in America that challenges participants to test the skills over a 5k to 10k course. They publicize it as the "Most Insane Day of your Life" and have amazing venues across the nation like the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. It benefits Talk About Curing Autism and has raised hundreds of thousand of dollars for the cause.

Clark was a contestant featured in the bull riding reality show, Ty Murray’s Celebrity Bull Riding Challenge, which premiered in August 2007 on CMT.

Dan is also the founder of "Ten Thousand Pounds", a program that tackles the epidemic of childhood obesity through education, motivating, and empowering Americas Youth.

'Nitro' From 'American Gladiators:' Steroids Gave Me 'Man Boobs,' Made Sex Painful
44

Dan Clark loved the power steroids gave him — until the "American Gladiators" star discovered the muscle-enhancing drugs made him grow man-boobs, shrank his privates and turned sex into a painful experience.

"Man boobs, breast-chesticles is what they're called on the street. Gynecomastia is the scientific name. No matter what you call it, I [had] it," Clark, who was "Nitro" on the smash reality series, reveals in his memoir, "Gladiator: A True Story of 'Roids, Rage and Redemption," out next month. "I hate[d] taking off my shirt. For photo shoots, [I'd] wet my nipple with spit ... [to] look firm instead of hanging down."

As he shot seven seasons of "American Gladiators" from 1989 to 1996, he pleaded with the wardrobe stylist to make him a new uniform, but didn't tell her it was "to hide my budding breasts." He eventually underwent reduction surgery.

Clark, a former LA Rams defensive lineman, used steroids for 20 years. They also took their toll on his private parts, so much so that he embarrassingly had to explain to women what was going on. "My b- - -s never really regained their size. They're kind of shriveled," he sadly told one bedmate. In addition, steroids subjected him to a "dull throbbing pain" every time he had sex.

Clark, 44, says when he first started injecting steroids, he gained a whopping 32 pounds of muscle in 10 weeks and topped the scales at 262.
