Will Phil Get His Due In The Future?
« on: February 09, 2014, 06:03:28 PM »
Meaning, will people look back and say, "damn, Phil was always in sick condition...and look at his arms!"
Kinda like what we do with the 90s guys. Or were/are we spoiled that we had the 90s?

of course. We knock on him but the truth is he has a stellar physique. I think he would have been a serious contender on the shawn/kevin/flex era.

He wouldn't be trying to play the mass game and would have done well with his structure

Phil looks great but I don't know if he'll ever be anywhere as "special" as Ronnie or Yates. Maybe if he were wider and matured a little slower. He just looks like he was inflated.

The little beta attitude sure doesn't help either. He's a fragile bitch who could never be anything but. I like the guy, but I can't respect him as a man.

Why does it matter what he or any bodybuilder for that matter looks like in regular clothes? Phil brings his best when it matters. Not in less the IFBB introduces a "Put on your clothes round", what these guys look like in a particular article of clothing is irrelevant.

yates stayed wide and had structure, coleman blew up so much muscle he grew wider ,he has that sloped narrow look now.traps are there still he never was a delt guy until later on,jay is wide by structure and grew massive delts on top of that..

And that could be a good thing. Approachability and non-intimidation. And also when he wears a suit, he doesn't look like a cartoon character.

by himself he looks spectacular, it's simply that in a line-up he lose like 20-30% of his wow factor cause he is so narrow and he really does not dominate anybody with his size the way coleman or yates did

but he does have a really nice quality to his physique

You think his arms are being under-appreciated?  They're regularly called some of the best ever.

Maybe if the next Mr Olympia has an even worse width issue and is more all arms than Phil I might look back and think that Phil wasn't that bad.

Subpar Mr. Olympia physique.

Where the hell did his chest go? Horrible width. Average legs for a Mr. Olympia.

All arms.

He is a good bodybuilder, nobody's refuting that. Mostly because he can come in at his best.

Phil's back double bi is very good and here the width and proportions looks good even to me.

But anyone can have one good pose, that is not bodybuilding. Almost every other shot (fdb, all lat spreads, ab shots, relaxed shots etc) is not so impressive. And I'm not even talking about comparisons, but rather when he is standing alone you see the weaknesses.

With his arms you'd think he should be able to pull an awesome front double bi like Arnold or Yates. But no, his chest and overall width just makes this pose a bad one for him. There is no hiding in front double bi as we know.

The back double bi - not to take anything away from it - is better because his chest is thankfully hidden. He does have a real developed back that is impressive detail-wise, and that draws attention from the width.

And the fact that he can lean 45 degrees back in this pose compared to the fdb makes his v-shape much better.

I don't think he will get his due in the future. I think a better Mr O will come along and the opposite will happen. The hype will be gone and the new generation will not understand how Phil was so popular in the 2010's.
