Leanness of past competitors...
« on: September 12, 2014, 01:02:19 PM »
So I was just schmoeing on youtube...but it struck me that today's competitors are just bottom line fatter and softer (how ever you want to put it) in comparison to any other era. I think we've come to the fact it's from heavy insulin use, but it's just so disgustingly bad. Who the hell is in charge of judging these days? Don't they see something wrong with big guts and soft balloon like bodies? Why are bodybuilders today so focused on weight on a scale than what they look like? Will this trend ever end or is professional bodybuilding really dead?
Also, many argue that this is due to lighting and modern cameras of today, I say it's a load of BS. Most of these 90s competitors were filmed on video, not film. Many older bodybuilders were captured on both (Arnold comes to mind), there is no significant difference. This topic is open to discussion although it's been discussed so many times before and we're probably beating the dead horse, but I have to rant.

people need to stop comparing different lighting and different cameras

doesnt make any sense

you can only compare 2 people in the same actual picture/video

When I see old footage from the 90's it really hits home how far bodybuilding has regressed. Seeing guys like Shawn, Lee, and Kevin in their best shape is inspiring. Their muscles pop when they pose, with no gut to be seen, and their serratus and intercostals stand out in bold relief, looking like piano keys. They look like works of art, not like the bloated messes you see on stage today. Fucking shame.

Even looking at Phil, he looks bloofy and soft. It's almost weird that he only displays striations when he hits poses, and only in certain muscle groups. And you can barely make out his serratus and intercostals. Hell, even Dexter has a gut.

They could stop this shit within a year or two. It would go like this:

Marked down for gyno.

Marked down strictly for large gut.

Disqualified for showing ass cheeks and/or making sexually suggestive faces at the crowd.

New rules regarding thongs - no garish colors and thicker material mandatory. Glutes to be fully covered at all times -it doesn't matter if they are striated or not, the audience don't see them!

This won't happen. Why? Because it seems that the people funding the 'hobby' of bodybuilding like the giant, bloated, freaky monsters that can't breathe properly showing their asses.

The glutes are a muscle just like any other body part that take hard work to get striated, they should be rewarded. You are already staring at a man practically bare

If you watch Pumping Iron they look like what they are - guys in thick trunks. There is no sign of ass cheeks and guys aren't showing them at all. Why is it now so much better that they wear male stripper g-strings in loud colors?

Old school iron-agers are no more 'practically bare' than a guy at a beach. Rolling your trunks into the crack of your ass and wiggling it is, I admit, practically bare. In fact, it's a bare ass.

Personally , I don't really care as I don't watch shows now and I understand guys nowadays like to show their ass and others like to look at that ass and 'reward' it ...so fair enough.

I accept I'm in the minority. The asses will be rewarded. My harmless little words on a message board are no match for shaved, oiled and shredded ass cheeks.

well in the celebrated golden era 90's bbing mentioned here as the best,it had its detractors like todays view, musclemag had there back pages ad cartoon frank zane vs todays monsters and it distorted it to say look what franks era had compared to todays 'drugged out mess'and they also parodied what zane would look like today ,he had bloated belly, thinned hair, distorted muscle compared to his sleek look,,so it never changes same cycle, its goes foward and more advanced approaches/protocals..bbing in any regards is the same as it's always been a chemical game..

As a man completely comfortable with my sexuality, I can analyze a males body simply for what it is. I wouldn't say you're in the minority as there seems to be mixed thoughts on trunks style. I just know as a competitor, if my glutes are dialed in..I'm going to show them.

I don't know what drug protocol they use now but they all have that bloated soft look. It just doesn't look like hard muscle.

How they wear trunks and making gay faces at the sugar daddies in the audience wont fix the conditioning problems.... if they mark down soft bloated physiques they will come in harder next time, guaranteed..

More gay reflections, once you let go of your sexual preference insecurities you'll realize judging a glutes condition is no different than judging a hamstrings.

Yeah, thats fine, but you can still judge the glutes condition in normal swim style trunks, you can see enougj of it to know....

The problem we all have is the competitors who hike their fucking trunks into their ass crack and then gyrate lomike a twerking black woman to show how 'conditioned' it is.

You can deny it or rationalize it all you want, but bro, that shit is gay as fuck.

Ronnie never popped his ass to the beat like Dana Baker did, you were polarizing with your 'twerking like black women' statement. That was 1 incident. And actually, Tony Searle who also hiked his trunks (like most Olympians normally do) would've never been punished if it wasn't for Dana's outlandish moves.

Never understood this. Other than Juruth, what gay shmoe prefers a wheezing tubgut over a more aesthetic physique? Is there a collective schmoe psychosis at play here?
