New car
« on: December 07, 2014, 02:28:21 PM »
Thinking about picking up this Jag in a month or so...The JD Power reliability score on it is about as low as it goes, but the design/luxury rating is as high as it goes.

Just looking for something to cruise to work in, in style. $5k down...$250 a month, so around $20k.

The car is amazing but I worry about the maintenance costs and there are a fuck ton of WAY more reliable cars in this price range, like Lexus, Lincoln, Nissan etc. But NONE of them carry the rarity or upper echelon feel of the XF.

Who gives a shit if your car has super low cost of ownership if you drive a fucking Honda...fucking gross..

http://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/detail/616764698/overview/#4

I'd be putting this exhaust on it from day 1.

There are also Benz and BMW in the range, but they are so damn plain, and a dime a dozen...Anyone have experience with Jags? Are they just brutal money pits? Worth the sheer gorgeousness ?

You're trying to justify buying a shitty car in your mind because it used to be expensive few years ago.

There's a reason these depreciate like $50k in 3 years. Because they break, break often, expensive parts, expensive labor, mechanics will add "tax" to your bill because they think you have money...etc etc etc.

You probably won't, but walk away. There are a million cooler and more reliable cars than this.

Only people that will think you're cool in this are canadians/democrats and low income wanna bees.

Hope this helps.

you can get quite a selection for $20k.  what climate do you live in?  how far is your drive to work?  what's the max mileage you would buy?

A lad I work with bought a brand new XF estate in Sept and he is not impressed with the reliability. He has been driving a Hyundai courtesy car for the last three weeks.

That't not the point. Spending $20k on a car these days is nothing. Brand new economy cars cost that much.
He's talking about buying a depreciated piece of garbage that will bankrupt him unless he lives with his parents.

I thought buying a 20k used car was the opposite of bragging but ok.

if you want to actually stand out you have to get something with class instead of something all the idiots will ooh and aah about.

This is what I'm thinking, only its not a shitty car, and there are NOT a million cooler cars than this for $20k in fact they are all pretty shitty, plain, and boring...The thought of driving a Toyota makes me want to kill myself.

I'm thinking without the factory warranty you'd have to be a fucking millionaire to realistically afford to own one of these.

BUT IT'S SO GODDAMN BEAUTIFUL AND LUXURIOUS!! Compare it to a 2009 Lexus GS350 with 70k miles, same price, shit design, shit luxury by comparison, a fucking Toyota basically BUT award winning reliability and low cost of ownership.

Hahha! Yep!

Anytime I see a 5+ year old foreign  "luxury" car on the road I just laugh.
Buddy of mine had a 2011 Audi S8. Beautiful car. One of the driver side speakers and window controls went bad. In warranty fix at the dealer was free...otherwise it would've been $3,800 FOR a fucking speaker and button. Totally retarded.

The people that really are wealthy and have money don't waste their money on shitty depreciating cars. It's only neeguls and clueless wanna bees that preoccupy themselves with that shit.

Why the fuk is everyone preoccupied with "luxury" these days?? Luxury everything. Luxury clothes, restaurants, clubs, hotels, coffee, ...blah fucking blah. When I hear luxury it translates to "lame marketing".

I like vehicles with character. Don't get me wrong there are plenty of cars now a days that I would love to own and drive but it's a giant rip off....i.e. Mercedes AMGs, BMW M cars....etc etc etc

Last 2 cars I purchased were a 2002 Porsche 911 $22k (3 years ago) 2007 vette, ...next car will probably a 996 911 turbo. 911s are reliable when treated properly and hold their value very well.

Next non sports car purchase will probably be a GMC/Chevy k5 blazer or c10 truck. Cheap, reliable, easy to work on....pure awesome.

I drive a 1999 Ford Ranger...I paid $3k for it in 2012...Haven't put more than $500 into it since that day lol, not so much as a tire....

BUT I HAVE TO BE SEEN IN THAT PIECE OF SHIT LOL

I'm just saying...Maybe $3k a year in maintenance is worth living my life driving a $60k (at one time) luxury/sport sedan...Instead of spending $0.00 on maintenance and driving a fucking Mazda.....

Hahha...atleast you realize it.

Buddy of mine is a mechanic and has few Alfa Romeo stories. Best one was when a customer brought his in for a simple issue and on the test drive to make sure everything is ok, another thing broke. This happened 3 times. Thing would literally break before something got fixed.

Whoa whoa whoa...Picking up the fucking whore means I already pulled her, and I am taking her to a restaurant where she'll eat a small salad before I plow her..

I'm just saying...In the real world people judge you, I have pulled multiple fine young women in my 1999 Ford Pickup truck, but still...Pulling up in a Jag XF..I mean come on  8)

Plus fuck these whores I WANT THE CAR lol I want to drive a nice car even though I (don't want to) afford the $600 a month I'd pay for a 2015 XF

lol dude you bought a car that was $70-150k brand new in 2002 10 years later for $20k     (that isn't even a Turbo) you sir drive a depreciated POS...Albeit a beautiful one, Porsche is my all time dream car, but not a 2002 with no turbo, which is what I can afford lol.

But it would seem that we're in the same boat...If shit hits the fan with that Porsche you're out $1k minimum...Same with the Jag. With proper maintenance it will last forever and hold SOME value..

Along with team sports, I never understood the need for an expensive, flashy car. As long as the car gets you from point A to point B and you don't die, who cares if it cost 15,000 or 80,000. Most people who buy these type of cars do so for one reason: to show off to others. I can't envision no other reason to buy an expensive car. Save the, "Well, I am a car guy."  :-\ :-\ You're only a car guy because society has placed a value on cars, thus you became a car guy to show off to others. When society places a value on anything, people jump on the bandwagon to get it.

I'm just saying...In the real world people judge you,

And what does it matter if people judge you? At least care about being judged on the important things. Not a car. You care that much about being judged by the car you drive?  :-\ :-\
