ive been going to yankee stadium since 1969 when i was little,it was 20 minutes from my house by train.my uncle used to take me alot. i used to watch the yankees when they had catfish hunter,thurman munson(rip) reggie jackson,chris chambliss,willie randolph,bucky dent,craig nettles,mickey rivers,roy white,lou pinella,sparky lyle,goose gothridge ect,those where the good days at yankee stadium imo.driving it was like 40 minutes or so

Blue Jays fan here but I too enjoyed watching the cast of characters on those '77-'78 Bronx Zoo teams ... don't forget Billy Martin too (if he was kickin' around dirt, that could be worth the price of admission alone.)

i got a  baseball at my parents house that has all the yankee greats of the past,micky mantle,yogi berra,phil rizzutto,joe dimagio ect. my grandfather was friends with phil rizzutto,pil rizzutto lived in hillside,NJ and my grandfather lived in newark,NJ. im not saying they where best buddies but they knew eachother enough to where phil gave my grandfather a signed ball,this was back aways though. the signatures are faded alittle but u can still read them pretty good,im gonna take pic of it and post it when im there this thursday for christmas

i remember the day he died like it was 2 weeks ago,i was hanging out on the railroad tracks with my friends and  i overheard one of the hobo's talking about it,it was a sad day for me cause i was a huge yankee fan back then.thurman was a great player,excellent at clutch hitting and making hard nosed plays at the plate,no one was bowling thurman over at home plate

The other officer didn't have kids yet. He had just gotten married. He was murdered before had children.

George Steinbrenner use to quietly pay for college for the children of cops killed in the line of duty. Glad to see the Yankees are carrying on the tradition after he died.

We get it - you're trying to be a dick, but this is a good thing.  They have the Silver Shield Foundation which is specifically set up for education.   And it's hardly like there's a media campaign around what they're doing - it's an article in the post and daily news.
