Liquid chalk (magnesium based) has been used by gymnast for quite a while now. Just keeps the palms dry, insuring a better non slip grip. Not 100%, nothing really is, but fairly dependable. Doesn't leave much of a noticeable residue, but advisable to wipe the bar after use. . Some rock climbers use the stuff
With gripping in mind, guy's still mostly use bar or the powder chalk box in lifting. Some (including gymnast & climbers) use rosin, in a pouch form or free form. Pin tar (sticky's) not used that much anymore. Banned in some lifting gym's I have heard. Makes a complete mess on any lifting equipment, and very hard to remove.
I will use bar chalk in some workouts. Pretty handy stuff. never used the liguid form. Also like lifting straps, a sure non slip answer when using heavier weights.
Good luck.
