1980 Olympia - CBS never released the footage

It was very close and Arnold, being Arnold, won the day.

In 1980, Zane was lighter and off from his incredible 1979 winning form.
Mentzer looked good but lacked the chest depth and overall stage presence to defeat Arnold.
 Roy Callender and Chris Dickerson looked incredible but seemed small next to a man of Arnold's stature.
Boyer Coe lacked abs and back detail and Platz was still too bottom hvy in 1980

I can see why Arnold won and have no problems with it.
Based on what I have seen , I would have picked it:
Roy Calender 1st, Dickerson 2nd, Arnold 3rd, Mentzer 4th...

I had Tom Platz winning in 1981 as he looked incredible.
Franco winning in 1981 was the worst Olympia pick of all time.

If Arnold releases that DVD just in time before his Terminator Genesys film, it could boost his persona. 

Just like the 80' contest Did.....When he was promoting Conan the barbarian.

his physique suffered in the 80's from drug overdosing.  In the 70's the just worked hard constantly and stay in contest shape but some time off he rushed back, drugged hard to get ready for the show and in the process pushed his physique too hard and too fast.

I think it's because he didn't trained long enough in '75 and '80. He had planned to retire in '74 but was approach for the PI movie. And by then I think he lost the hunger he had to really push himself. He was so dominate for his time that he simply lost interest. I don't think he had more than 3 months to get ready for both shows. And that's coming from not, or barely, training at all.

Didn't know Boyer got to watch the uncut version of the CBS 1980 Olympia footage along with few others  !

So, they didn't aired it cause it was too controversial ?

Hmmmmm The best thing that can happen to any tv network is to air a controversial show ......

So, they followed around Tinerino ,Zane ,Dickerson and Boyer all featured as the main contenders for the contest.

At then comes Arnold,unexpected out of nowhere and win it all ,  now that will make the whole crew and production look like they did a poor job by following around the wrong contestants and making the contest about everyone but the winner....

That to me makes more sense to not air the show. 

Arnold was booed, fellow competitors feel he wasn't even top three
But to Arnold in general the 80's were the most successful decade due to his popularity in movies. 


Which will make the controversial 1980 MrO never aired footage more attractive to mainstream audiences than pumping Iron was in the 70's

Controversial only because Arnold shouldn't have been allowed to compete, not because he was undeserving of the title, won fair and square in my opinion... Most controversial? Hardly... Mr Basile himself, if i remember correctly, said that Arnold was booed for a moment, cheered after...

It's a bodybuilding contest. It's judged by rather subjective criteria and ARNOLD won.
Poor Mentzer never could get over it and quit competing as a pro after that.
The only on Mike hurt on that, was himself.

In 1975 he lost a lot of weight to do Stay Hungry. Then he was asked to do Pumping Iron and had to get ready for that. Arnold's overtraining would make it harder to get back in the same shape because he doesn't let himself recover properly.

1980 he did at last minute too and was leaner than any other show. Once you start dropping weight when you are already lean it shows.

In 1980 he was ripped,lean beyond belief . better muscle separation compared to his 1970's form .


The CBS footage remastered,  HQ, or better yet  Blu Ray will be worth the 35 years wait.
