You may have read about it before but again she did not reject the settlement until yesterday, hence not old news.

She rejected in early December.  The current article is just the actual check.  But no biggie, I didn't read the current article about the actual check and changes and thought it was referring to the quote below.  Oops.

Quote
http://Reuters) - Sue Ann Arnall, the ex-wife of Continental Resources Chief Executive Officer and Chairman Harold Hamm, has appealed a divorce judgment that awarded her around $1 billion from the Hamm marital estate, her lawyers said on Friday.

The appeal by Ms. Arnall, who has gone back to using her maiden name, comes after Oklahoma County Court Judge Howard Haralson ruled last month that Hamm would have to pay her around $1 billion, including cash and assets, over a period of years as a result of the couple's divorce.

The decision allowed Harold Hamm to retain most of the wealth stemming from his 68 percent Continental stake, deeming it his "separate property."

Harold Hamm's divorce attorneys have called Haralson's ruling equitable, but the oilman's ex-wife considers it unfair. During trial, her legal team valued the couple's total wealth at around $18 billion, and contended it should be divided equitably between the spouses, who were married for nearly 26 years. Hamm founded Continental in 1967, years before the couple wed, but the vast majority of the company's growth came during the marriage.

"As Sue Ann has stated previously, 6 percent is not a fair proportion of the wealth the couple accumulated during their marriage, and she trusts that a more equitable division of the marital estate will result from this appeal," her legal team said in a statement.

If she worked for it, helped build the company, she is entitled to more. Think of it as a business partnership. If you dissolved it, would you be happy with that?

This story had made the rounds before.  I read about it here....so did Mr. Anabolic:

OK cba reading later posts but it is in news as judge said he wouldn't change amount (guy made his money in oil, down +50% since last June) so will be appealed to SC of that state. That is why it is in news again.

To be fair, $1bn out of a $16bn fortune isn't too bad IF it isn't all cash right now. You can't just release equity into cash, that is why so many of these judgments are retarded. Give her shares and some cash. See how she likes oil dropping to $50/barrell.

$975million? No thanks! Oil tycoon's ex-wife REJECTS a check for (almost) $1 billion because amount is 'not fair'

Sue Ann Arnall has appealed the $1billion payout she received in her divorce from her ex-husband, Oklahoma oil magnate Harold Hamm

She rejected a check for $974.8 million Tuesday so it didn't affect her appeal case

Arnall claims there were 78 errors in the divorce settlement

Lawyers claim Hamm is actually worth about $18 billion
She also received a $14.7 million California ranch and two Oklahoma homes valued at $4.6 million and $800,000

The settlement is the second highest ever in the United States, after the $2.5billion reportedly received by Jocelyn Wildenstein in 1999

Harold Hamm, the chief executive of the oil driller Continental Resources who is embroiled in a bitter divorce, offered to pay his former wife $974.8 million, but she rejected a handwritten check delivered to her legal team, his lawyer said Tuesday.

Hamm's offer to pay ex-wife Sue Ann Arnall immediately the full cash value of what he owes based on a November divorce ruling by an Oklahoma County judge was rejected, Hamm's lawyer, Michael Burrage, said in an emailed statement.

"Ms. Arnall, through her counsel, stated that they were rejecting the ... payment because Ms. Arnall did not want to risk the dismissal of her appeal by acceptance of the benefits," Burrage wrote.

A jaw-dropping photo reveals the handwritten $974.8 million divorce settlement check rejected as too skimpy by the ex-wife of a billionaire oil tycoon.

Sue Ann Arnall, 56, scoffed at the jackpot-size payout from former hubby Harold Hamm — CEO of the energy company Continental Resources — demanding more money because he was allowed to keep the bulk of his $13.5 billion fortune.

The check, penned in bubbly handwriting, was made out for a mind-numbing $974,790,317.77 on Monday. The couple was married for 26 years.

The sky-high sum was delivered to Arnall’s legal team on Tuesday, but was promptly turned away, according to Hamm’s lawyer, Michael Burrage.

How will she feel if his company flops (when hell freezes over) and the cheque bounces? I think she could get by on $1bn cash (CASH) and some land and assets.

Any guy who gets married deserves getting taken for a fool.
Are most men too much of a pussy to lay down the law?
Just say no.  It's that simple.  If she bails...oh well, not worth being with.
Anyone who values a made up contract more than a relationship, is a buffoon.

Yep, pretty sure on their rise in building a $13 billion dollar company they fucked over hundreds/thousands of people to get there.  Wonder how many millions or billions they fucked over other people for to get theirs.

She changed her mind and took the cash

Sometimes, $975 million really is enough.

Sue Ann Arnall, the ex-wife of oil tycoon Harold Hamm, has cashed her huge divorce check after claiming earlier this week that the settlement was unfair.

Oil prices are seriously dropping....that's why she changed her mind.  Smart idea as the value of the company is plummeting

She didn't just sit around and be a housewife.  She was an executive of the company and did all of the legal work for him to be successful along with landing contracts.  7% is a complete joke and I don't blame her

yeah i agree.

in this case its got nothing to do with women grabbing. they were together 26 years. and she contributed in a large way by the sounds of it.

if thats 7%, then she'd be expecting about $6-7b wouldnt she?

so its no wonder she rejected it. also, she'd be getting some pretty good advice from lawyers. by rejecting it, her lawyers must think they have a good case for much more.
