Unfortunately the cop made the rookie mistake of failure to search before questioning and paid for it with his life. There is a video on LiveLeak of a man brought into a police station for questioning and the cops failed to search him for a weapon first. He pulls out a pistol and kills himself and one of the cops says, "Where'd he get it?". Derp.

Yeah... his complacency cost him his life.  This is why I don't watch COPS .. I go nuts when I see obvious officer safety issues. It's been hammered into us so much hands are the threat.. always be able to see the hands are empty. At no time do hands get to go into pockets that havent been search.. There are a number of things the officer was doing wrong and he handed his life to the guy on a silver platter.

The man keeps refusing to remove hands from pocket.  Cop should have already drawn his weapon at that point. Especially when he shows left but not right hand.

The whole time, the cop just wants to be his friend.  Sad.  Cops should spend more time in shady places preparing.  The old vets usually don't fall for shit like this.

The only time I ask someone if they have anything in their pockets would be as I'm positioning them to be frisked or searched. It usually involves "or anything that will cut or poke me" as often times addicts will up that info knowing you're likely going to find it anyway and will be really pissed if you get poked with a syringe.  You want to announce you are about to frisk at the very same moment you've got a hand on them moving them into position, not before.  The cop in this case actually asks him, then seems to take him at his word which is stupid. Then tells him what he's going to do before he has him moving into position then... doesn't even turn the guy away from him before he starts in.. I'm already concerned about that right hand and I would trap it in place at that point till I can find out what is there. Action beats reaction every single time. So if I suspect he has something in that pocket, if he moves to take his hand out and it has a pistol or knife, it's too late to react.

The reality of  it is, if someone wants to kill a cop bad enough.. there is a good chance they can succeed as they know what they are going to do and have the element of surprise on thier side. All we can do is try and not just hand them our lives on a silver platter which is what happened here.

Flagstaff wow that's close to home.... I know he wasn't following protocol, but Flagstaff if a small place and not much crime happens out there, defiantly not cops getting shot at, probably why he seemed a little more relaxed than if he were in the city

Police Chief in a small Oklahoma town got killed this week... Probably does have something to do with it. I'm not familiar with Flagstaff, but I know in some smaller towns and cities, it's been 50 years since an officer was involved in a shooting. So they probably do develop bad habits

When I was in the Navy and worked as an MA, they sent me to Blackwater for training for the anti terrorism task force and all my instructors were ex cops, I always wondered if the training was the same as real cops or if they just used what they knew and then modified it, but they were defiantly hard core

Not Good. This time a Cop gets killed for Zero reason.
Shows no of us can be safe when guns are involved.

Thankfully the Lowlife also Shot himself, saves the tax payer
A lot of money in lawyers courts & prison.

No the cops camera did nothing to prevent him being shot
It did record the actions of the scum bag & for what little
Good it is Vindicates the Cop from any unwarranted accusations
Of wrong Doing.

Obvious Gimmick

I am very familiar with this shooting. Dude was arrested after he shot a cop (winged him, nothing serious). They took that gun, but didn't search him to find the suicide gun.

Best part was when the local Mexican community said that the man was murdered and this video was shopped to cover it up  ::)

Dude was a 2nd striker, was never going to be free again. Handled it himself. I wish more criminal would do the same

Chilling police body camera video shows the calm final moments before a domestic violence suspect pulled a gun and shot a rookie Arizona cop five times, then turned the revolver on himself.

Flagstaff Officer Tyler Stewart, 24, had been on the force less than a year when he was gunned down Dec. 27 by 28-year-old Robert Smith.

The 14-minute video of the deadly encounter shows how innocuously it began before Smith suddenly pulled the .22-caliber revolver and fired off six shots, four of which hit Stewart in the head.

dude's hands were in his pockets.   cop was there for a domestic violence.  he had plenty of reasons to say show me your hands.

when dude didn't instantly show them, cop should have put gun to his side and asked again politely.
