To those GetBiggers who prefer paper bag and ice machine stories ... Don't bother reading this .... There ain't none here.
I am in total agreement with KWON 3 regarding Hamdullah Aykutlu whom I have never seen nor heard of before.
That is what an Olympia champ should look like .. maybe with a slight bit more pec work.
How and when did he pop-up on the bodybuilding scene?
OLDTIMER, Great to see that another GetBigger was alive during the good old days within the world of bodybuilding.
You managed to mention a few contenders I knew well back then such as my old friend, Vince Gironda who …. to the best of my fading memory …. did not allow any type of squatting in his Ventura Blvd gym so that Larry Scott had to …. quietly and without Vince’s knowledge …. go elsewhere on leg day.
Vince was under the strict opinion that squatting broadened the hips and the waistline.
And at one time there was ‘major concern and confusion' regarding the Scott Bench…. as to whom was the first to develop such a contraption.
Was it Vince, or Joe Gold, or Larry himself or another unknown identity?
Gym members throughout California argued about stupid stuff back in them good old days.
I should add that Vince was very outspoken and gave a new kid on the block by the name of ARNOLD a load of shit (deserved or otherwise??)
DALE ADRIAN …. I haven’t thought of Dale for centuries. The last time we communicated, he was working in one of the major SoCal YMCA’s
But that was way back in the bodybuilding dinosaur age so I could be mistaken.
I promoted a show when Dale was our special “guest poser” and he showed up the day before as white as a sheet … but decided to spend that day on the beach to tan up a bit.
But he mistook the intensity of the sun and appeared on stage with one of the best and brightest glowing red sun-burns possible.
But he received a standing ovation anyway aalong with a lot of suggestions on how to ease the pain of that sunburn.
A vinegar application was suggested by most so-called sunburn experts.
SCOTT, I met Cathy on a couple of occasions while she was with Mike but I did not know that she eventually married Clint Beyerle.
Years earlier Clint and his training partner whose name I have forgotten trained at Pearl’s Pasadena gym and decided it might be best if they both trained at Gold’s Gym when it was owned by Ken Sprague as Gold’s was sponsoring the Mr. A contest in Santa Monica which they were both entering.
But …. they discussed this with Bill first and Bill agreed which I thought was a real ‘gentlemanly’ thing to do on the part of all three.
I believe it was Clint who was ultra-vascular at that time but I can’t recall how he placed in that contest nor who his training partner was at that time.
I believe that Clint is or was an airline pilot. In fact I'm sure of that as he flew some of his friends who were also friends of of mine across the states to an event in Florida!
All the above is based on long term memory so feel free to correct me if I am mistaken … or if you can add any details that may or may not be of interest to the pre-dinosaur aged GetBiggers.
