from what is known he wasn’t a nice person and from what is known he was a abusive person, the point is there’s a million stories of abusive parents and for the most part I’m sure most don’t shout it from the roof tops (online etc) how much of a ass-hole their father-mother was, it’s a difficult position JR is in because he’s chosen too pursue bodybuilding as his “Career” so obviously he will always be under the shadow of his more famous father...But that’s his choice...no body told him he had too be a bodybuilder in fact I believe his father try too discourage him from it.
No matter what he does (or doesn’t do) in bodybuilding there will always be comparisons with his more famous father and unless he actually does win the Mr Olympia...he will never get out from under his shadow...this imo is what he anticipates (he’ll never win the Olympia) so I guess it’s easier too just let everybody and anybody online throughout the world know his father was a this that and the next thing.
IMO it’s a runabout way of shielding himself as a get out clause for the more than likely scenario he will never be a actual Mr. Olympia or be recognised or revered like Snr was as a 3 time Mr Olympia champion, a persons personal family’s business imo should stay just that...whether your father was famous or not but hey everybody is different I guess.
Sergio Oliva Sr, has lived a harsh life, but let me repeat a story,
Ahmet Enunlu was furious about his 4th place finish in 1981 WABBA Pro Universe (Enunlu is nobody for some of you but he was very well known in Europe with fantastic genetics and work ethic)
Enunlu is an emotional Mediterrenean type, so he declined 4000 dollars purse,
Sergio knocked his hotel room door and said, don't be emotional, accept the money, if you are too prideful for that, I can take it for you, and give you.
So Sergio wasn't a bad guy, he was big hearted, fun loving but also high tempered even hotheaded special specimen.
He also seems like a quick witted, easygoing fellow (the way he handles Arnold, in 1995 Mr Olympia Champions reunion)
Sorry about his bad relations with his son, Jr. was very sincere and kind in replying my e-mail back a decade ago, some people are not meant to be parents.
