That's Arnold first ever Mr. universe win, and he was a kind of bodybuilder who doubles in size when he was flexing.
Standing relaxed I can imagine Bill Pearl had more thickness and muscle maturity but Arnold seem to have more streamlined mid section, broader and better shaped chest, much sharper quads.
Is it there other merits of Pearl that I can't see besides his amazing thickness, and freaky triceps on Arnold.

I agree with you. Bill looked great there no doubt. But he's smooth. compared to Arnold. Bill has a better tan, better triceps and thats about it. Bill had a certain asthetic but simply Arnold was bigger and better conditioned.

Thanks for your take, btw I believe Arnold's 1966 to 1967 improvement was one of the most amazing transformations ever.
He was quite rough in 1966, but look at his quads in 1967, his tiny midsection,
It took 2 years for him to transform himself further.

I was watching Cutlers 09 Olympia and wondering if anybody else ever made such noticeable improvements in one year. By 1960's standards Arnold is up there for sure.
