What Reeves had over all of them was perfect proportions , none of those guys could match. The closest was Reg Park

Chest 52″

Thighs 26″

Arms 18.5″

Neck 18.5″

Calves 18.5″

Waist 29″

Height 6′ 1″

Weight 215

Those measurements look like BS to me.  That sure as shit doesn't look like an 18.5" arm, nor does that look like a 52" chest.

We do know for sure. It's a matter of record. Back in Steve Reeves' day, bodybuilders didn't run away from you, when you you pulled out a tape measure. Steve Reeves stats are accurate, as posted. He trained in a Physical Culture mode, so he kept his measurements in line for symmetry. His arms would go up over 18.5" and he would stop working them, because he couldn't get his calves and neck to match, for symmetry. Old Skool bodybuilding wasn't just about mass, it was about looking good too.

Reminds me when younger people talk about the Beatles. I hear younger people say they were terrible but when you ask who they liked in rock prior to the Beatles they come up with nothing. They don't realize all their rock heroes from Led Zep, The Stones, The Who and so many more learned rock playing Beatles songs. In truth they were the best band of all time.

This is the same with Steve Reeves. Who looked like that in the 40's and 50's? To this day if he was at a beach walking down the boardwalk foot traffic would stop and jaws would drop in his perfection with movie star looks. If a top 10 Olympia did the same he would be greeted with laughter and call outs about steroids.

The Rolling Stones and the Beatles came up at the same time, so no, they did not learn rock from playing Beatles songs.

Actually, Reeves has stated that his arms went as high as 19.5", however, they seemed to be 18" most of the time. His height has been debated as well. He's been said to have been 6'2", as well as 6'1" (same as Red Park).

I think that 19.5" measurement is bullshit. I've never read that. In his book he mentioned his arms at their largest were 18.5" or something like that.

Here's some other measurements listed for him from an older Mr. America program -

First of all, the Rolling Stones and the Beatles came up at the same time, so no, they did not learn rock from playing Beatles songs. The same applies to the Who, who had been around since the early 60's as well. As for Led Zeppelin, YES, I'm sure Jimmy Page was influenced by the Beatles, but he also goes back to the early late 50's/early 60's and was in the Yardbirds before Led Zeppelin.

All the early British Rockers were influenced by 1950s American Rock n' Roll: Elvis, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, Bo Diddley and Eddie Cochran, to name a few.

It was in a Muscle and Fitness magazine from 1981.
