I had better uppers when younger.

Did more inclines and flying cables with meeting point at nose height, doing crossover at the top.

Haha I've heard that enough, but jealous? I don't think so.

In before anyone mentions Hammer Strength inclines. My FB post from yesterday....

.About 3 1/2 weeks ago I decided I needed a little break from my gym and thought it would be good idea to go train at our local YMCA (formerly Golds). It was a chest day. Warmed up, started with bench took it 405 x 2 no problem. Went to DB inclines took that to 120 x 8-10 no problems. Then I decided to throw in a few sets of Hammer Strength inclines and low and behold I blew out both of my shoulders. This SUCKS!

Just when you think a machine is good for isolating, think of the consequences that may come from it. Besides, I think the title of this thread is "Upper chest activation'...no?

I've found the best upper pec exercise to be reverse grip bench. Seriously give it a try.

Um, I don't think anyone believes because a machine is good for isolating one body part, that doesn't mean you can't injure another body part. I have absolutely no degrees or certification in training, and I even know that. In fact, who wouldn't know that? You must be talking to some really dumb people.

I mean, a hammer strength may isolate the chest more, but that doesn't mean your shoulders and triceps are still not getting worked. I cant imagine anyone asserting that just because a machine is meant to isolate one body part, it doesnt mean other body parts are also not getting worked.

Consequences can come from any movement. Look at all the powerlifters who get injured every year using free weights.

Still, there is a small amount of irony is successfully getting a 405 double and then moving to a "pumping" machine and fucking up your shoulders. Coach, did you tighten your core when you did the Hammer? Did you row the handles down to your chest before EXPLODING the press? Did you (yes!) try to "rip the handles apart?".

Many of these advanced techniques could have saved your shoulders.

It's something I should have known better. The machine is a great machine the problem is the handles force elbows/hands below the chest and STARTING at the bottom of the movement.

Of course its ironic, but it still doesn't mean it cant occur. Its not like no one ever got hurting using machines or cables.
