Author Topic: How would Powerlifter Dave Gulledge fare as a Bodybuilder?? (Read 11374 times)

Came across a couple online articles of this powerlifter Dave Gulledge a few months ago. Apparently, he messed up his hamstring and decided to cut down during his downtime to minimize his chances of future injuries. As far as I know he is competing again at PLing (just as strong benching), but has no plans to compete regarding bodybuilding. Apparently he is (or was close to) the youngest person ever to bench 700lbs.

There are also some pics floating around of him after being carb-loaded(looks even bigger and still shredded) at about 275.

well if he does train to be a BB, he should try to widen that back... his back looks like Mike Francois..... Alot of potential there

Yea without being able to see his legs, his back looks like his only real weakness.
Anyways, I found the carb-loaded pics, fvcking jaw-dropping:

do you guys think this says anything about training more like a PLer than a BBer for size or is the guy just a freak?

6'0 and 265 is pretty damn good. If he could widen his back, I'm sure he would do quite well.

I think that powerlifters have a different look....that dense, thick quality.

It's hard to make up for that look with any other kind of training I think.

You can tell he's a powerlifter by looking at that lower back. Those carb loaded pics were fuggin intense, damnnnn!

He benched 755 last month in a meet in KC...I believe he weighed around 270. He is training for a PL meet in April and then possibly dieting down for a bb contest in MO in June/July...Don Long has offered to help him with his contest prep if needed.

I know this guy... he is a freak. His little brother kyle is a freak too. Kyle deadlifted 800 when he was like 18... he tore his bicep not too long ago, and just recently deadlifted 700 double overhand.

here's the crazy thing... they are really healthy looking in person. full of energy, not discolored or sweating or out of breath.

Solid guys. really willing to help people out.
