Yes, that's obviously a lot easier than having someone pull the weight off your chest. ::)

The problem is if you ask someone to do it they never do it right. They start taking weight off
before you have reached the point of failure on the rep. That means you're not sure if you did
get the extra rep or not. That really annoys me, I'd rather fail with the weight and roll it off my
body.

If somebody is going too heavy for a barbell bench without a training partner, maybe they should do dumbbells instead.

I'm only talking about failing on the last rep. So you might get 4 or 5 reps before it.

There is no question that when you fail on the bench you must roll it down
your abs and legs and onto the floor without anybodies help. That's how I always
do it - I also never do decline press.
Oh yeah that is smart..hmmmm I wonder how well that tactic works when your shoulder gives out or some other severe,unexpected injury,and you drop the bar suddenly... I guess only a pussy  would even wonder about that situation.

Only a total asshole would refuse to spot someone. Anyone who refuses to spot should be promptly shit-kicked and thrown out the gym.

I always spot someone if they ask, but I'm thinking to myself at the time,  oh boy, try going lighter you dumb ass.. Ruins my workout flow. Then if they ask again for another spot,  I just try not to get pissed..

I hate those fags that complain about things like music, the TV.  Things I didn't even know were in a gym. Shut up already and workout.  Watch TV at home, bring a walkman if you can't do your set to the "I'm talkin' about the doorbell baby" song.


It's sort of distracting working out with "In the navy!" or "It's raining men!" or "Beat it!" rambling in the background.

There was this guy in my xgym who wanted me to spot him on 100 dumbells incline i thought what the Fuck i thought i admuse him i passed him one dumbell in to his left hand then realizing he was missing 3 fingers on his right hand anyway i spotted him for 15 with some forced reps and told him to ask me anytime for a spot.

In a gym?

Here's my number one:  When some douche interrupts you so you can do upright rows over his chest, aka spot his massive 225 bench that he can't seem to do.  This prick couldn't get one, and he was like "Keep going".  Guess what folks, if you don't have a training partner, don't ask other people for spots.


I gotta strongly disagree on this one.....I've never had a regular training partner and I use every resource around me in the gym.....most often I know the regulars in my gym better than the few training partners I've had.   Those gym regulars I know I can count on and they provide me the most experienced assistance I need.

Then they're not strangers.

Only in the sense that I see them regularly....I don't know em personally nor do I speak to em, but at least I've witnessed what they do in the gym and know they are reliable.   They are by no means a training partner dedicated to me, but at least I have confidence that they are at least competent.

my university gym never fails to piss me off

- people using the squat rack for bicep curls
- no longer allowed to do deadlifts (too loud)
- no longer aloud to squat till I puke ("offensive to the other patrons")
- always seems to be bicep day for 90% of the other people
- complete lack of intensity
- juice monkeys who NEVER squat

I don't mind other people asking for a spot or smaller people who just want to get toned - different people have different goals and I can respect that - not everyone wants to be a mass monster - fine. But when you come up to me when I'm wearing my "Shut Up and Squat" shirt and training my ass off in the squat rack because I'm "too loud" or whatnot (which im not - a grunt isnt disruptive), that's the line.

"Well if you're using that much weight and asking for a spot, you must not be doing it properly..." - well, all i know is how to grow (70 lbs in 8 months clean)

They wont let me do deads off the floor, rack deadlifts, or partial rack deadlifts. They shouldnt call it a gym, they should call it a fitness spa.

i always ask for a spot and lift off from as little as 190lbs. saves shoulders. me and my mates hate the other person lifting it too much so we decided that if ya say "lift" it means its too much and u want thgem to take the weight off you. If you say "spot" it means touch the bar as little as possible to keep it moving. works well. also easy to explain to strangers u ask for a spot in the gym
