I'm curious why you didn't quote and include all of the other extensions since 2008? Is it because it doesn't fit your narrative that people have known and had almost 20 years to prepare for this?

I believe you meant fit your narrative, which is that people have known and had almost 20 years to prepare for acquiring REAL ID. My narrative is that not everyone has had 20 years to prepare for this; some may have only days or months to get REAL ID prior to voting.

Like I previously posted, I got REAL ID a couple of months ago when my driver's license went missing. My driver's license renewal date was not until 2028, and I would have used my passport as REAL-ID, had I intended to travel. In 2028, I must pay $90 again to renew the driver's license and REAL ID. So yes, I am a penny pincher. 

Tell me about it! A couple of months ago, I bought a bottle of wine at Safeway. Safeway requires proof of age. Can you imagine how ridiculous this seems to someone like me who is 81 years old?

Anyway, I showed the clerk my driver's license and either she forgot to give it back or I forgot to pick it up off the counter. It wasn't until about two weeks later that I was buying another bottle of wine and when I looked in my wallet for my driver's license, it was not there. I had no idea where it was by then. And I was not allowed to buy the wine.

After spending an entire morning at the DMV getting a replacement drivers license and upgrading it to "real ID" not to mention the additional cost and hassle of gathering up all the proof they require including renewing my passport for $130 to do this, I had a notion to check with Safeway's customer service and guess what? They had my old, now worthless driver's license. I shredded it.

On the day of the appointment, I arrived 10 minutes ahead of time as DMV suggested. I then checked in and was assigned a number. And then I waited an additional 30 minutes for my number to be called. Once called, the process which included presenting required proof and waiting to have my photo taken took between 20 and 30 minutes more.

And apparently, I waited less time than many folks do according to what I read. Wait times at the Gladstone DMV for license renewal often exceed 2–3 hours for walk-ins due to high demand, particularly for REAL ID, with some reports of 3.5-hour waits.

Unfortunately, in Oregon, AAA cannot issue REAL ID. Only the DMV can do this. I have AAA. If I could have used it, I would have.
