How long it lasts is irrelevant.  The main point is that 95% of all romantic love is fleeting.  You are fooling yourself if you believe otherwise.

Only real love is the love you have for a relative or parent.

I think love for a parent or child is the only legit answer.Even sibling love fades imho once they get their own families.

This is the only love that truly exists, paticularly for your kids

18 months seems like it's more of an infatuation than romantic love.

the only lasting love is between a man and the weights at the gym.

If the relationship is solid it doesn't end.....it matures and deepens....it's no longer about teddy bears and chocolate hearts.

I can speak about one piece of research:

The research shows that after a baby is born, certain hormones are secreted in both men and women that increases the chances that they stay together, i.e., the hormone attempts to ensure romantic love. Evolution did this on purpose, to ensure that both parents are around for the first 3 years of life (I believe the hormone is secreted for roughly 3 years), in order to give the baby the best chance of survival and success (obviously, two parents are better than one parent). Once the hormone is not secreted or rapidly diminished, well, good luck.  :) :) :)

Obviously, it doesn't mean the relationship will end, since many couples are together much longer than 3 years. However, having a brain flooded with specific hormones sure does help.

Depends on who you are, shy beta virgin men who dont get laid will wife up any half decent slut who looks at them, they will put up with a lot of bullshit from women because they know if she leaves it will be a long time before they get laid again, alpha males who pulls nice piece of ass on a regular basis will not put up with bullshit because they have options so once they get tired of the pussy and the girl gets annoying they will move on to the next piece of ass.

I'm not sure I can only speak from personal experience perhaps those rare few have that something 'special' or they just accept they are good together despite the lack of 'love' and stop looking for something that isn't there and stick together?

Love can be defined and expressed in many different ways.

Keep in mind not everyone writes poetry or gazes softly into their partner's eyes. These things are very nice though. Women love it when men are willing to show their more sensitive side.
