not really.....his last 3 movies were major Hits, they aren't franchise......."Moana" "San Andreas"...."Central intelligence"......he was the lead character on all these 3 movies and their combined Box Office is at $1.1 Billion......give the guy his dues....he's getting there.....the upcoming Baywatch movie should do good

Hollywood is different these days. Whereas in the past people would flock to see a certain actors films, today it's all about the size of the franchise, how much cgi is in a film,  how unrealistic it is. With a good agent people like the Rock insert themselves in established franchises and the following he has elevates it that little bit more. His solo outings are nowhere near as successful as the established brands.
Put him, a Chris Pratt, Chris Evans etc in the 80s or 90s they wouldn't touch arnold, sly in their peak

No and I'll tell you why its because audiences dont want that shit anymore. They tried to bring it back with arnold and sly making the expendables and they tanked harder than the titanic. those movies didnt suck by 80s standards they were good, but by 2015 standards they were fucking shite.

i loved all of those 80's action movies as much as anybody

i never saw the expendables and i have no desire to ever watch it, those guys are way past their prime

The first and second are good, doesn't matter about their prime. The third while still entertaining was the worst and worst received, trying to shoe horn in younger guys with no charisma or personality.

Well when watching it doesn't matter because they're all in shape and still have presence. They were still entertaining to watch.  Arnold wasnt used right though,  sly just recycled his old lines rather than give him something new he could have fun with.

he wasnt in the first one, the second one did ok but they havent made any more, it had a huge budget i think it may have broke even with the budget advertising etc

there is a new death wish coming up this year starring  Bruce Willis.....it might be good.....but it's hard to duplicate Bronson with the wrong actor though

My hope for this is that Eli Roth directed and isnt afraid to show gore and injury. While his hostel films weren't perfect his style should fit death wish. Hard to match the coolness of Bronson though, I hope Bruce can pull it off.
