« on: April 04, 2006, 08:32:48 PM »
I have a buddy of mine in the gym, everytime i see him he is always working his chest.I go to the gym 5 times a week and everytime.he's doing chest.I asked him arent you suppose to rest those muscles?
he say's the more stress and strain you put on them the harder they will get.
AM I LOST? or am I doing my workouts wrong.
he' pretty big.

he's an idiot. Maybe he's on drugs, that's why he's big.
do not train your chest 5 days a week.

A natural will gain even on a strange program like his. He'd have achieved more with less effort if he'd trained properly.

well my training partner (NPC competitor) and I train chest 7 days a week. Chest is my best body part. Go figure.
Having said that, I use very low volume training. I only do a couple warm up sets then 1 or 2 all-out sets.

Once a week is more than enough for a large muscle group like chest.

Everyone knows you grow when you rest..lifting weights tears down the muscle and recovery builds it back up stronger than before. So think about that...if you train a muscle every day...when is it going to recover and grow?

if resting was so important, i'd do 100000 sets in one day then take the whole month off and be the biggest guy on earth.

can be said both ways.

trials and errors. for me personally i prefer extremely high frequency. sometimes i train the same muscles twice in one day. no that's not a typo. the way i see it is, if i can go into the gym and lift at 100% strength, then i'm going. like Shawn Ray said, there is no such thing as over training, only under-recuperation.

he's big and ripped

he would be even bigger and more ripped if he did chest seven times a week.

Hell....do it twice a day...7 days a week.....if he did that, his chest would make Ruhl's chest non-existant....

Well what you said sorta suports the idea of needing enough rest between workouts.Yeah, you are right no such thing as overtraining only under recuperation...but MOST people cannot recuperate fully overnight(without gear) but if you can then more power to ya.
